It can't be much longer, can it?
I just got back from my 38 week appt...the midwife feels the belly, listens to the heartrate, makes sure baby is head down and not posterior like her sister...all is well....and then the exam.
4cm, 80%, -1.
Holy crap.
OK, so maybe this sounds naive, but how long can it possibly be? Can you just walk around like that? My last labor was so fast (and painful) - it's hard to imagine I'm this far dilated without realizing it.
Maybe I should go pack a bag.

Good idea! I hope your little one gets here soon.

Unfortunately, dilation is not an indicator of when labor will start. You can walk around at 4, 5, 6, cms dilated for weeks. You'll probably deliver that baby sometime within the next 4 weeks.

since no one can predict the arrival of a baby, it's probably better to have your bags packed now than assume that you have time to put it off.
congrats on your bundle-to-be!

Sadly this is so true. I walked around at 6 cm for a couple weeks before going into labor. It was nice to know something was happening, but it meant nothing for me timewise. I remember I was 2 cm dialated 6 weeks before giving birth.

Thanks for the advice/experience. I had no idea you could walk around at 4/5/6 cm. 6 cm is almost 2.5 inches! It's a little scary to think how fast it might go once active labor really starts...
Well, the bag is packed now, just in case.

Well, we know you're going to give birth in the next month or so! So, it's only a matter of time!

exciting!
I was not dialated at all the day I went into labor and had the baby quickly.
I look forward to hearing your story when it happens!

I know, I know...well, the bag isn't technically *packed*, but there is a small pile of stuff sitting over in the corner that I know I want to take with me. How's that for procrastination?
And as for priorities? I managed to get in for a last minute touch-up on my highlites this morning. (I mean, the hair has to look good, right?)

Nothing to update.
Except that the bag has made its way into the same room as the pile of stuff that is to go in it. So I guess that's progress.
(I'm almost wishing the midwife hadn't checked me at that last appointment. I was perfectly happy feeling like she was still sitting way up high and assuming she'd be two weeks late just like her sister. Now I'm all kinds of anxious, even though I'm no closer to going into labor that I was before the exam.)
