Emotional- is it baby related???

DUDE. I have been so soft hearted lately. Not that it is a bad thing, but I mean, I bawl at the slightest sad thing. Especially if it is children/baby related. I can barely wach the news. There was a special on about a couple trapped in a blizzard in the middle of nowhere with their newborn and I was bawling my eyes out. , On Oprah was a mom whose ex-husband murdered her 4 children. OH MY LORD. , On 60 minutes they showed a story of the children in Darfar. Those poor babies! Of course I would have felt emotion before, but now that I am a mommy- my heart literally breaks. It is waaaaaaaaaay more real to me now. All I can think of is "What if that were River?" But to their mommy, they are what River is to me. It really kills me. Will I ever be less emotional or should I expect to cry every day for the rest of my life?
A closed mind is a wonderful thing to lose.

Totally normal, and it doesn't go away. Well, the crying does, but my kid is 12 years old and I am still much more disturbed by reports of children in danger than I was before I had her.

It's just one of those things about being a parent.

Yeah, once you become a parent...wow.
My big quirky thing is always checking out/noticing if folks have the proper carset or properly positioned in the car...I'm a dork about that stuff now...who knew?
Mine is almost 3, and I still get tears in my eyes whenever anyone even mentions children getting hurt or mistreated. Like it physically hurts to even think about it.

Geeky is my hero. She's the true badass. The badass who doesn't even need to be a badass. There aren't enough O's in cool to describe her.
I was like that BEFORE I had a child.... now it's even worse!

Just echoing what everyone else said. It pains me to hear anything about children being hurt. In the movie Crash I cried when the 4 year old was shot at and that wasn't even real.

I was an emotional wreck before - now I'm a full blown disaster.

I also worry way too much - think of the worst case scenario and I've already thought of it. Thinking about seeing someone b/c I don't think this is normal...

I am so bad about this too. Movies I would have thought stupid before scare the bejeazus outa me because there are kids involved. I have often said there should be a separate warning on movies of violence against children.

Movies I cried at:

Star wars 3: didn't show it, but it implied it
Signs: before kids I would have thought this was a stupid boring movie,
Punisher: love the movie, but I can't handle the first part at all
The messengers: very freaky movie, one of the scary parts with me was the baby, I was constantly scared for the baby.

I've become such a wuss and crybaby when it comes to child it's embarrassing.

I hear ya. I was watching a TV show last night on National Geographic about a women's prison facility. This one young woman gave birth to a child while she was in prison, and 2 days later, had to give her up to her grandmother so that she could return to prison. Before I had my child, I would have thought, "Well, she got what she deserved," but last night it totally broke my heart to see her give up her child!
