I don't know if this is common, but I find Elli sleeps much better at night if she has good naps during the day. If she's overtired, she's too cranky and sleep doesn't come as easily, nor does she stay asleep as well.

You know what? That happened last night. We thought he'd sleep better since he didn't nap much during the day, so he'd be super-tired. He gave us holy heck last night in trying to get him to sleep. Thanks!!!
