need baby gate recs for a monkey. . .
I mean climbing toddler. He is driving me nuts. I can't keep him out of ANYTHING right now. I've tried a few cheap ones, but they barely slowed him down. I've looked at a few different ones, but most of them look like the body of it would just be a ladder to him as well.
Any recs, preferably that's not too expensive? |
our house is locked up like fort knoxx LOL. Well it was mostly for the dogs and the kids when they were younger (but now the kids know how to work the gate locks, we taught them).
What worked for us were these vertical bar gates that are extra tall by Summer that we bought at babies r us. They were about $60 a pop but totally worth it and are pressure mounted so no fiddling with any hardware. For our kitchen since it's an extra wide and angled opening we found an online store called Safe Beginnings that had a hinge mounted gate which could be installed at an angle and extended with additional pieces (also vertical bars). The vertical bars prevent the climbers from getting high. |

We have two of these and they're still going strong after 6+ years.

on the vertical bar ones, I still worry a bit. Is there any way, via wrapping toes around the bars he could get a grip on them? because that's exactly how he got out of his crib, he'd put the bar between his big toe and 2nd toe, wrap his toes around and climb up. http://www.laymark.com/i/m/m000.gif http://www.laymark.biz/i/m/m002.gif

I remember watching an episode of one of the Dilley Sixpack shows with Diane Sawyer several years ago when the kids were small. They were trying to keep them in their playroom, and the kids were climbing over the vertical bar gate using their toes. So they tried putting vaseline on the bars so they would slip, but the kids got over anyway. They tried putting a second vertical gate above the first one, and greasing those bars, and the kids still got out. They ended up putting a third gate on top...that kept them in. LOL...why not just install a door...

I was going to recommend one like this too. I'm pretty sure that Babies R Us carries them. Good Luck!!! Chas is just starting to climb things (windowsill). I'm dreading it. |
