Default For those who have made their own wraps

Sort of a spin off of Pixie's thread...

I would like to have a wrap for the baby. I have a sling to use when we are out and about, in and out of places, and a Bijorn for DH, BUT I also want something that is a little easier to use at home, and when we are outside for long periods of time in the summer when she is a newborn.

I got a GREAT deal on jersey material today. The length is 5 yards but how wide should it be??

25-30 inches. Most fabric is twice that, and you can cut it in half lengthwise to have two wraps (one can live in the car as your emergency carrier).

If you follow instructions from the Moby Wrap website, you can put the wrap on before you leave the house and then pop the baby in and out at your various destinations.

SO I could technically just fold the fabric in half and sew it together rather than cutting it in half or thirds?

BEG - lol that is the site I have been using while making this!

You could fold it, depending on the fabric. If its gets thick and bulky then you'll want to cut it.

I would cut rather than folding/sewing. If it's 2-3 layers thick, it will be bulky and awkward to tie. Not to mention HOT if you use it in the summer.

When I've made homemade wraps (I've made some for friends also, so more than once) I just fold the whole thing in half lengthwise then cut along the fold. It doesn't have to be perfect, but doing this keeps it pretty good.

So cutting in half and then just hemming the edges would be fine (yes I know I could probably get away with not hemming, but I am nesting like crazy right now and I feel everything should look perfect).

Hem if you want, but I never do. With the stretchy fabric, it will curl up and not fray. If you do choose to hem, make sure to use a stitch that will allow for some stretch.
