Coconut oil
Has anyone used coconut oil as a PT? How do you use it and how often? Do you mix it with something or just straight. I also hear it is good for hair regrowth, any experience with that? Thanks!

I actually read an article about this. Coconut oil is a fat, almost no protein in there. But if you use it as a prewash (or probably any other time) it will prevent loss of protein from your hair that occurs through rinsing, cleansing, exposure to air and sun and wind and heat.
So it's not a PT in itself, but it helps preserve your hair's natural protein reserve. I see you're a wavy - have you checked out the 2s board?

I know girls who use coconut oil on her hair, they said it's awesome. They leave in on curly on few hour or night and wash, probably hair is soft, shiny and better to style. I want this product but it's nowhere in my town. Sometimes she's use it in their hair after styling to more shiny.

Have you tried your local health food store? Or grocery store? I usually get mine from Publix or the health food store. When you decide to purchase it, make sure that you buy virgin unrefined coconut oil. This means it hasn't been processed which destroys all the good properties from the coconut.

While coconut oil gives me the shiniest, prettiest curls I can achieve, it also makes me break out like mad where ever my hair touches my skin (face, shoulders, back). It's highly comedogenic. :*(
Every now and then, I'll put some coconut oil in my hair a 1/2 hour before I shower. Instead of using it daily like I use to, I use Alba leave in CO. It contains coconut oil, but not too much to the point that makes me break out.

Cocnut oil!!
i use coconut oil all the time, for everything!! not going to bore u will the details, but i put it on straight out of the shower and after my hairs dry (for flyaways), so its pretty much ALWAYS on my head, lols i also u it in dts, and its worked fine for me (coconut oil, honey and organic condish), but i think im protein sensitive (not sure to wat point as yet), and I know coconut milk has proteins, so shouldn't the oil? i luuuuuurrvvvvveeeeee it <3

No, as mentioned above, the oil does not contain any protein as it's a fat, just like how protein has very little, if any carbs. who knows, maybe using straight up coconut milk could do something...

I've used it a couple of times and it's been so-so for me. Moisturized my hair quite a bit, but I wouldn't use it again because it just forms a film over the cuticle layer. My hair doesn't absorb oil too well.

How are you putting it on straight out of the shower? How much?
I want to do this but the coconut oil I have found at the health food store is in a solid form and needs to be melted.
thanks!

It is solid, yes, but if you dig it out and rub it in your hands it melts right in your palms.

Thanks. I've cooked with coconut oil (its healthier) but not used it in my hair
Are you putting it in wet hair? Just like its a styler? About how much do you use? I want to make sure I don't use too much, I'm sure its easy to do and then you'd overcoat your hair and make it greasy. That'd be nasty!

I use it on dry hair as a pre-poo treatment. I did use it once very sparingly on a very dry/frizzy day.
But a lot of people put it on wet hair, like a LI.

Coconut oil is one of my favorite oils but it makes me break out as well. I have had a lot of success by only putting it on my ends. It makes a lot less contact with my face and I get the benefits of shiny nurished hair.

Hmmm. Ok, I'm going to try it like I would a LI but not on a day where I need my hair to look good.
I put it on my dry hair today when working on getting 2nd day hair and it didn't do much. Didn't tame frizzy flyaways or make my curls pop or anything. It made my hair soft, but it also felt a bit greasy. It was hard to judge how much to use too.

Yeah, I've only used it as a pre-poo bc it's so penetrating. Maybe in the tiniest amount on dry hair it might be helpful, but I don't know.

On the coconut oil ( in general). ... It is solid a 76 degrees and liquid above that. I put some in a mini squirt bottle ( not the spray king, the other kind with a flip lid and one hole) that I got fr 99 cents at Walmart. It was liquid ( because it was summer when I did it) so O jist poured it in this container. Now that it is cold out, it is solid in the container, but I either fill the sink with hot water and put it in there, or throw it on the floor of the shower when I shower,
You can use it in solid form fine but I like my little container.

Coconut oil does not have protein. Coconut milk and coconut cream does, though.
