Default Protein filler?

I posted on another forum but thought I would give it a try here too.

So I know my hair loves protein, but I am really lazy and hate having to do protein treatments. I have read about the neutral protein filler from Sally's. So my question is, how should I use it and is it a good idea? I have heard of people adding it to their conditioner. I just am not quite sure how to use it. I saw an article on nc.com about lazy deep treatments so I was hoping I could use this product as a daily lazy protein treatment (or however often I need it). Any help or comments from experience would be greatly appreciated.

saturate your hair with it and let it stay on for at least 20 minutes (no shower cap). I recommend blowing your hair dry with it in. I tried mixing it with conditioner and using heat and a shower cap, but it wasn't as effective.

I use it before I color my hair - saturate, blow dry, then color without rinsing in between - and I loved it for that use. It helped the color go into my hair more evenly. However, for my weekly PT, I prefer to use IAGirl's PT. I just use gelatin with a dash of coconut oil and blow it out... it's cheaper than the neutral protein filler (although the protein filler is far from expensive) and I like it better.

[edit] maybe adding it to a leave-in would be more effective than using it in a RO conditioner. If you're trying to avoid spending time on protein treatments, then you're going to want to put in in a product that stays in your hair because rinsing it out right away isn't going to to give you any benefit

I just picked this up for myself after finally remembering to actually look for it when I went to sallys. So far I have used it 2 different ways. I'm currently putting about 10 drops in an 8oz spray bottle with about 1 tbsp of condish for a second day refresher and it seems to be working well. I also added some to IAGirl's PT for an extra boost and that worked out well too. I'm not sure my hair likes protein but I am growing out a lot of heat damage so I use it on the damaged ends of my hair more than my new growth. This seems to be working out for me, at least till my hair changes it's mind again, lol.

I mixed cure care conditioner and a squirt or two of the NPF and it was a really good protein treatment. The results were actually better than IAgirls treatment for my hair.

glad you found something that works! I think I mixed it with my suave natural coconut, which probably doesn't have as much protein as cure care... When I'm done with my bottle of GVP CB, I'm thinking about picking up some cure care. Do they make sample packets of it?

I don't know if the make samples but it is pretty cheap to begin with $3 for 20oz.

I use NPF as a spray....I add around a 1/2 tsp. NPF to 8 oz. of water in a spray bottle.... Then my post-shower routine is: plop for a couple of minutes, scrunch in my leave-in, scrunch in FOTE AVG, and then spray a little bit (not too much or else your hair will feel like straw) on my wet hair and gently scrunch it in... It also works really well for a next day refresher when I re-wet my hair

I think I will try it as a spray. My hair just eats up protein. Which sounds better, before or after leave in? Some how I feel like before would make it more effective.

I had added 20 drops NPF to a 50/50 mix of Cure Care and water and was using that morning and evening to make sure my hair was getting enough conditioning/moisture in our desert climate. Yesterday, I emptied that bottle (12 oz. I think), so today I filled it with water and added 1 tsp of NPF. After thoroughly wetting my hair in the shower I sprayed this liberally on my hair, no gels, conditioners or other stylers at all, and today have the best curl ever. Apparently my hair is protein starved. I have been using regular PTs and noticed some curl improvement after each, and I have also been using a lot of products with protein in them, but this is the most dramatic improvement ever. Tomorrow I will see if this day can be repeated. My other good days were never reproducible.

So was the NPF and water spray a go for you? Were you able to get consistent results with it?

My hair loves protein also and I've been adding the NPF to my leave-in (4-5 drops) each day and it seems to help when many of my stylers don't contain protein. I've never used it as a spray, but that's a great idea

I really like it as a spray, but this is only my second day using it.

2b/c mix, fine strands, low porosity, medium density, and normal elasticity.

Love Curl Junkie! CJ Gentle Cleansing Shampoo, CJ Curl Queen gel, and CJ Curl Fix are HGs for me.
