Default PT made my waves weaker?

So I have fine hair that is color treated. So, it is safe to assume PT would be a good thing. I did the gelatin recipe from here. My hair FEELS amazing. But my waves got weaker.

OK, here is my hair a couple of days before the PT....

It wasn't completely dry yet, but it stayed pretty wavy. Was slightly greasy looking...but I think I was detoxing b/c I am new to CG.

Here is my hair today (a few days after PT), and I wash/fixed my hair exactly the same way.

Isn't a PT supposed to enhance wave/curl? Is it b/c I am still new to CG? How often should I keep PT? Does it take more than one treatment to see curl improvement?

I thought my hair was 2b, but it looks more 2a today.....

I am using VO5 lime kiwi to cow ash, and now the Suave for LI and RO. I was trying to see if the GF I have was weighing it down....but I don't think it was.

Any advice/tips?

This is the same problem I had last weekend. I limited protein this week and it helped. The first two days after the PT I didn't use RO and I haven't used LI all week either (sometimes my hair looks like that when I over condition, too). After a week my hair is feeling dry but my curl pattern is a bit stronger. I tried a RO with protein today and I'm limp again. My plan is to focus on moisture for now then try different protein.

I wish I knew the actual solution to this

I had the same problem, but I followed it with a coconut deep conditioning and after that my hair looked great.

What did you do before and after the pt?

Before hand, I did my lo-poo. Afterwards I left some of my Sauce condish in for like 5min and rinsed. Maybe I should have done more of a DT? I have coconut oil and my hair likes it.....how do I DT with it?

I just found a thread talking about how to tell if your hair needs protein, so I am going to try the stretch test today. My curl pattern does look pretty good right after the shower....then droops as the day goes on with it w/o product.

While most people complain of brittle straw-like hair if they use too much protein, there are a number of people who get softer and straighter hair instead. It could be that your hair dislikes the specific protein you used, or it could be a protein sensitivity. You would have to experiment more to know for sure. The guidelines of fine hair likes protein and coarse hair doesn't aren't hard and fast rules and there are women here with fine color-treated hair who cannot do PTs. In the end, no two heads of hair are exactly the same.

According to the stretch test I need protein. My hair stretched a LOT....like 70%.
So I did something wrong? I will try again, and see if it is better....

Like I said my hair felt good afterward, just weaker waves. Guess I will experiment more.

It might just be that particular type of protein. You might want to try using something else and see if you get the same results.

Yep my hair reacts to gelatin as if it's been over conditioned (limp, softly frizzy, straight, very stretchy). Even more odd, it improves after oiling (which should be making it more conditioned). I think I respond "normally" to hydrolyzed wheat protein though.

Anyway, I use coconut oil by wetting my hair, then saturating my hair with coconut oil (i use about 1/4 c ). I let the oil sit for about 30 while I take a bath, then use just a little mild shampoo to remove the excess oil. My hair still feels slick when wet, but when dry my hair should not feel oily any more. (you may have to use more or less shampoo depending on how well your hair absorbs oil)

Does coconut oil have protein in it?

I just realized I haven't lo-poo ed in a while. Maybe that is it? I will lo-poo soon to see if that is it before trying anything different.

And if I wanted to try a non-gelatin PT, what do u recommend? I would prefer to either make it myself or have an inexpensive purchase. I am on a very limited income, so I tend to DIY for just about everything to save money.

I would try checking around on the site for some recipe ideas. If you have a Sally's nearby you could also try the GVP K-Pak.

No oils contain protein. But coconut oil and some other saturated fats bind to protein in the hair, slowing protein loss.

You could use a conditioner high in protein as a protein treatment, like Nature's Gate or some VO5's.

OK, so I lo-pooed and that helped. So maybe I just needed a lo-poo? It had been almost 2 wks since I had. I never had a set schedule to lo-poo....just did it when my hair seemed dirty/oily. But co-washing kept my hair looking clean. Interesting.

I will make sure I lo-poo on a schedule so that doesn't happen again.

I am planning on getting to Sally's today and going to buy a GVP K-pac to see how that works.
