Does my hair need protein or not?!

My hair type is about 4b and im transitioning. My hair isnt as soft as it used to be and Ive never done a protein treatment before.. I just never really knew much about protein and hair until reading a few posts about it online. Should I just do a protein treatment anyway, seen as I havent done one or wait till my hair really feels straw-like?! Im really confused!

And if anyone could tell me some easy, homemade recipes that would be a great help! Thanks in advance!!
Welcome!

It kind of sounds like you might need a DT more than a Protein treatment. I have had a lot of luck with doing some that work both at once.

I just recently tried the Henna & Placenta w Olive Oil pack at Sally's. It really helped. I almost think I should have done two back to back because my hair was really damaged. But it was a perfect combo of PT and DT.

We do have different hair, but I will say most people get straw like hair AFTER using too much protein, so I'd focus more on a DT than anything.

HTH! If you could give a bit more background on your hair history that might help too!

Well, I've never had my hair chemically straightened but for the last year, I was hot combing my hair for at least 2 times/month. I realised that my ends were dead straight from all the damage so I stopped and started the CG method to get my curls back. I actually did a protein treatment this week and I just don't know if my hair has benefitted from it or not. I used 1 egg, honey, mayonnaise and olive oil. Did I do something wrong because I didn't feel/see a difference?

Maybe due to heat damage they will take a while to start showing their curl again. I know my ends were incredibly straight for the first few weeks of going CG because I flat ironed them all the time prior. They still aren't as wavy/curly as my canopy or regrowth but they are getting better. I have been thinking about doing a BC for a whole now.

Maybe doing a DT too to see if anything helps? Mine really perked up after that as well. You might have better luck posing your question in the 4 forum too. I'd just ask about your ends and see if anyone else has a similar problem and they might have posted under a different phrase.

I know that heat damage recovery can take a while for some wavies and curlies so don't fret!

I've been doing DT every week and my hair seems a little more bouncier but it's not that much of a difference. I have seen a difference since doing the CG method though. Some of my straight ends are starting to curl up now so I'm getting good results
Oh, and thank you so much for the information.. I really appreciate it!

Good luck! I am sure you'll keep getting that curl back. Sounds like it just needs a little encouragement!
