AO GBP heavy on protein? What's stronger?

Hey ladies!

Just curious regarding how strong AO GBP is considered in regards to protein.

Also, I'm looking to try some even stronger protein treatments on my hair. Any recommendations?

Thanks!

AOGBP is a rinse out conditioner with protein. It's not a PT. I think the PT is Blue Algae Conditioning Mask. I occasionally use it as a li.

IMHO, the best PT is CJ Repair Me. It's a moisturizing PT, so you don't have to do a DT. After that is the SS Repair Treatment and then CJ Curl Fix. I use some of the "less" strong PTs (like the Algae Mask) as leave ins: Curl Fix, SSI Okra Repair, Mozeke Carrot Protein, etc.

Aphogee makes a REALLY strong PT. I've never used it and wouldn't bother. It's supposed to smell horrible and can be problematic to use.

Thanks for such a prompt reply, kathymack! Ingredients look great, except propylene glycol can make my scalp itch at times; however, it's low enough on the list of ingredients that I'd love to give it a try. Any tips on where to get the best price on CJ Repair Me? Does CJ do coupons often or something like that?

I'd been looking at Aphogee, Nexus Emergencee, Giovanni Nutrafix Hair Reconstructor (any thoughts on this one?),... Funnily enough, even though I love Aubrey Organics, I hadn't even thought of trying their Blue Green Algae Conditioning Mask! :sunny:

For a super strong and cheap PT, there's a thread on the 2s forum called "PT Recipe... As Promised". It's a gelatin based PT, so it uses the same type of protein as the Aphogee 2 step, but can be tailored to meet your individual needs (the thread contains tons of variations). I hate making my own hair stuff, but I love this PT because it's easy to make it weaker or stronger based on what my hair needs.

Wow, I'd totally overlooked homemade recipes... Interesting and it looks simple enough! Should be able to pull it off in my dorm room heck, if I'd been able to henna in there, anything is possible. :) Thanks, Corinna777!

Something else I'm going to keep an eye out for: Colorful Neutral Protein Filler.

I'm allergic to a lot of products and always thought it was the propylene glycol. I don't have any real issue with the Repair Me. I think it's because it's only on my hair for 10+ minutes (even if I leave it on longer, it's not a problem), it's gets rinsed out and I only use it once a week. I have more issues when I use it in styling products.

Hey gals! So after poking around the forums, I opted to try out Colorful Neutral Protein Filler. Reviews are enthusiastic, ingredients look good, price is right... I would've tried the homemade gelatin treatment, but I like the idea of a consistent product so this protein filler seems like the best of both worlds in terms of price and results. I'll keep you posted.

Thanks for all your help!

FYI got the 16oz size at adiscountbeauty.com

The NPF is great, but it's more of a spray-on or mix in (I believe most of us use as a mix in). I actually add it to my gelatin PT so I get two different types of protein in one treatment. I've also added it to conditioners for an extra protein boost. Definitely keep us posted.

Ooh, I was planning to dilute it and spray it on my hair then add heat and rinse like the gelatin PT. We'll see if that works. If not, I'll definitely try it as an add in.

Upping the protein!

Alright, so I've used the Colorful Neutral Protein Filler twice in the past week.

First time, I diluted it as per the bottle instructions for a conditioning treatment and saturated by hair with the mix using a spray bottle, then waited 20 mins and applied heat with a blow dryer. Then I deep conditioned with AOHSR. My curl were definitely springier and more defined and required less product to style.

Second time, I co-washed my hair first and squeezed most of the water out, leaving my hair damp. Then I sprayed CNPF onto my hair without diluting, put my hair up and under a plastic cap and waited an hour. Then I rinsed it out. Didn't deep condition, but used AOHSR as a RO. Hair feels awesome.

I'll admit I didn't deep condition because I've never felt my hair dry after a protein treatment. (Henna did leave my hair feeling dry even after deep conditioning, with results like an intense protein treatment + the red color.)

I like what protein is doing for my hair, so I think I'm going to up the amount of protein and my routine and see if my hair likes that better in the long run. Using less gel is definitely a plus!

Like Kathymack said, AO GPB is a protein conditioner. It's got a nice dose of protein but it's not a PT. My favorite strong PT is CJ repair me as well, or I guess I should say its moderately strong. I would stay away from aphogee unless you have serious chemical damage.
