Default To PT or not to PT, I ask you...

My hair constantly has halo frizz. However, my hair is moisturized, and it is very soft and shiny too. However, I did a coconut oil and honey treatment about four days ago and I can totally tell that my hair is even softer and there is about half the frizz there was before. But the problem is my curl pattern. I use to get ringlets in parts and the last few days are nothin but soft lifeless waves.

I'm wondering if I need more protein? It's obvious from the daily products I use (SN Coconut, and BB's Very Volumizing, both have protein) that my hair loves protein and that I haven't gotten dry or straw like hair from doing weekly PTs yet, so I'm pretty sure it's protein craving but could I be wrong?

I was thinking of doing my first gelatin PT tomorrow, but I figure I'd take it to the boards here and see what you guys think.

Thoughts?

TIA

Yep sounds like you need more protein. Never done gelatin PT, but I tend to go for more hydrolyzed protein when there is halo frizz and the shape of my curls start going lazy or wonky. Something with soy (any hydrolyzed veggie protein really) or keratin.

Yes, definitely sounds like you need a protein fix. What kind of protein do you usually use that's more of a treatment than what you mention?

I did a IAGirl's gelatin PT the evening i posted this with the hopes that it would revive my curls and even worse results occurred. My hair felt a lot softer and looked shinier than after my DT but the frizz was back to what it was before and my hair was practically straight.

I did quite a bit of label reading and a little science study, discovered that my hair responds well to keratin proteins and soy proteins best and NOT collagen PTs that the gelatin PT is strong for.

I normally use a KPak and my hair responds really well to that but I know it's high in keratin so that's probably why. I did another DT to see if it would revive my curls but nada. After a few days of lots of cutting out protein, I did an ACV rinse on Friday night and that helped TONS!!! My curls came back and it was extra bouncy. I also finally got the best clumps ever!!!! Thank goodness for ACV rinses!

I've never tried an ACV rinse. I've always been scared that it will be too drying. Do you do the rinse after conditioning or before?

I did it after my co wash before my RO. Some people like to leave it in, but I didn't. I like to rinse my hair from the co wash. Apply the ACV, let it soak for a moment then apply my RO on top, comb through to detangle then rinse. It didn't dry my hair at all, and I was amazed at how it perked up.

That's exactly how I do mine. I use the Live Curly Live Free recipe (1 Tbsp ACV to 1 cup water). Mixed up in a water bottle with a squirt top was easier to apply for me, and the leftovers were ok to store in the bathroom until I finished the bottle and needed a new batch.
