2C/3A fine/low por - want to try PT?

Like Tree20Likes

Aw thank you! Can you believe this is the worst day of my routine, usually? I can't wait to see what my hair looks like tomorrow. Even though my hair isn't as soft and silky as usual, I think I'm quite pleased with the strength GPB seems to add.

And I'm guessing I really need a trim. It's been six months now and I usually get one every four months because the weight of my hair weighs my curls down.

@ Lauraimes & Angelicak: your hair looks great!

@ Artcurls: I had the same thing recently after PT my hair went all soft and straight. I know I can't do a gelatin PT, so I use protein with moderation. Sometimes I wash my hair with kesham, sometimes mixed with conditioner. Even after clarifying my hair felt soft and fell more straight, like no product good get a "grip" on my hair.
So I figured that too much protein can prevent products to "work" on your hair, because the hair shaft is all sealed up somehow... dunno if this theory is correct, but that's what it looks like to me. After a good conditionerwash my hair already curls better, so although my hair felt soft it was lacking moisture, I think.

Can you tell me the measurements of your homemade recipe with avocado/banana/oil?
I thought that these ingredients weighed fine hair down, but it clearly didn't for you.

Firefox & Kathymack were right! I had cone buildup. Bye bye cone conditioners, they are out of my routine.
A few days after I did the avocado/banana/EVOO mask followed by an ACV rinse I decided to be bold and give protein one more shot. I did Joico K-Pak that I've had forever. This time it worked like a charm. Even my stubborn top canopy layer that hates to curl.

Here's the recipe. Just FYI, I used a full avocado & banana because I have a ton of hair that's shoulder length. I did not include the egg this time. I also left mine on for 30 minutes. It worked great! Best of luck to you!

Avocado Banana Hair Mask

Prep Time: 10 minutes Wait Time: 20 minutes Makes 2 masks

1/2 avocado
½ banana
1 egg
1 tablespoon olive oil
¼ cup vinegar
1 cup water

Combine water and vinegar and set aside.

Combine avocado, banana, egg, and oil in blender or food processor. Puree until no clumps are present.

Massage prepared mask into scalp and comb through hair with fingers or a wide-toothed comb. Cover hair with shower cap and leave in for 20 minutes. Rinse hair with cool water and wash with shampoo.

After shampooing rinse hair and then pour vinegar/water mixture over hair. Let vinegar sit on hair for 1-2 minutes then rinse and condition as normal.

Thanks rapunzel and artcurls!

Day 2 was much better than day 1 but a better gel would definitely help. My hair has more curls but it's still kind of fly-away and a bit dry.

I'm considering KCCC and I got a sample of BRHG. I've noticed many people use BRHG over KCCC. I'm just wondering whether KCCC provides moisture as well.

I have to admit that I'm scared of trying things with moisture because my hair gets weighed down so easily.

Oh, I'm thinking about making my own FSG once I've bought a strainer. However, I've got no clue what it actually does. Hold? Moisture? Frizz-fighting? Clumps? All of it?

Thanks for the recipe, Artcurls! Should I put this on dry or wet hair?

I think the Ecostyler is a medium to hard gel. As I was recently convinced in the woes of a wavy thread, a hard hold gel is almost a necessity for loose wavies. I just tried a gel similar to BRHG and the results were great, I'm not sure about refreshing/restyling but it sounds like you've got that part down already. From what I've read, it seems like KCCC or FSG are used for clumping with a harder gel for hold.

Thank you for your elaborate reply, Lynaea! I've tried the BRHG two days in a row and on the first day I thought I hated it because it became rock hard and all weird, but when I looked in the mirror that evening my hair looked absolutely great. Same story on the second day.

I've also considered Shea Moisture Curling Soufflé but it's difficult to get hold on in the Netherlands and even more expensive than KCCC (which strikes me as odd because it's the other way round for US people). Right now, I'm thinking I should get KCCC for clumping and such, then top it off with BRHG (which is available in the Netherlands, hooray!).

I've tried Artcurl's recipe ( I used banana babyfood instead of banana), but I guess my hair doesn't like EVOO very much. It just sits on my hair. Even after shampoo I can still feel the oil. Curls are more defined though.

So I was wondering could I try a PT with only the banana babyfood? Or should it be better to mix it with a moisturizing conditioner instead of EVOO?
