Like kathymack said, you don't know until you try.
I have med-coarse hair that is extremely protein sensitive, but still use a protein RO (with keratin or silk protein) in the summer months, maybe once every two weeks.
I started CG in the summer, so I thought I could handle more protein than I usually need. It's definitely seasonal.
In the winter & spring/fall I never use protein, except on the odd occasion in a styler or a gel. Even protein analogues (jojoba oil, avocado oil, coconut) are too much for me on a regular basis.
I never need an actual PT. I tried once (last summer) & it was not good.
If you do use any protein treatment, be sure to follow up with lots of moisture.
