When to apply protein treatment?
Hello NC girls,
I'm struggling to understand when to actually do a protein treatment. I usually greenhouse it, with my hot oil treatment pre-poo? I'm not sure if that's going in the right direction.
I realized I need to work on my moisture/protein balance. I've researched and recently learned that I was over conditioning my hair, so I've been doing a better job with moisturizing; but, I'm still having issues with protein. Does anyone have any suggestions? I would like to put an end to split ends, knots, dryness, & shedding.:dontknow:
There is no 'one size fits all' approach, depends on your hair type/ properties and trial and error. Many of us find we can use more hydrolysed protein in the summer and less in winter. Some need to deep condition after a treatment others do not. My hair seems to do best with protein within a leave in conditioner rather than drying intensive treatments.
Have you clarified and chelated to address the knotting and dry feeling in case that is simple build up? It doesn't make sense to say your hair is dry (most mean lack of water) and too moisturised (too much water) at the same time.
The only solution to split ends is a pair of scissors. Not sure what you mean by shedding, if shedding from the roots them see your family doctor or a dermatologist. If breaking on the lengths and ends you may not have your hair properties right so not selecting the right products and ingredients.

I really appreciate the response Firefox. You helped me look at other things that might be the problem, versus what I'm really focusing on. I actually do have a lot build up, another issue I will have to research.
I say dry because when I do my nighttime routine it feels that way after my twist out & I say too moisturized because I thought that's what my hair was due to lack of protein.
Thank you for the hair analysts suggestions, I'll have to follow up on that.
