Ends breaking! But protein sensitive?
Hey there curlies,
I've been CG for about 3 months now and prior to CG I was straightening and blow drying my hair for about 4 years. Recently, I got a hair cut in which my hair was up to my bra strap but it is now up to my collar bone because of all the heat damage. I realized today that even though my hair is healthy it still seems to be damaged? (If that makes sense..) Whenever I run my hands through my ends I can hear them breaking and they feel very dry and coarse. My hair is very porous from the mid lengths because of the heat damage Ive accumulated, however, the new growth of my hair is just normal porosity. I'm also very sensitive to protein and so if my ends are breaking does that mean I need more protein or moisture?
Thanks!

Hey there! What would be helpful in making a "diagnosis" is to see a breakdown of the products you're using. List everything you're using, even hairspray (some hairsprays have TONS of protein in them). Here's a very helpful page on protein sensitivity (I keep it bookmarked, LOL). It's RCC's blog, and she is very knowledgeable when it comes to protein sensitivity:

Well at the moment I've been using Tresemme Naturals nourshing conditioner, Giovanni TTTT low poo and FOTE. I'm from Australia so there isn't many CG friendly products available here.

Hello,
Highly porous hair usually needs moisture, protein, and emollients. Also, it's good to use hard-hold gels, oils, and butters. I've read that it's also good to use ACV rinses.
I would definitely try using a deep conditioning treatment weekly. Maybe you can also treat your ends with a leave-in conditioner after every wash. (If you do use a protein treatment, make sure to do a deep conditioning treatment afterwards).

It might be the Giovanni TTT because it has soy protien and that just builds up on me and my hair gets really hard and feels like it's going to break off.

OP, I think every product you listed has protein in it! You might be overdoing it, especially if you think you're PS.

I didn't think the Tresemme Naturals Nourishing Moisture had protein in it. That's basically been my main rinse out and leave since I went CG a few weeks ago and I haven't really found fault with it.
I've kind of thought I was at least somewhat PS (hair reacted badly to both Redken Extreme and Suave Tropical Coconut), so this kind of surprised me.

Yeah, there are 2 hidden names... so I guess it's slight protein.. but of coarse (pun intended) freaked out.
There was a long post on here about it....I think in General Hair Talk.. not sure.

There's a huge post in the 4a forum about the Tresamme naturals conditioner. A few ladies said it didn't contain enough to agitate their hair unless they used it everyday...each head reacts differently I guess.

Yeah Amber, you're right every head is different! Absolutely.
I used the first day, and it was fine...2nd day All He(( broke lose!!
My hair is very sensitive, when it comes to protein! Stinks, because it seems a lot of products have it in there!
