Suave - probably all of them. I must have used more then half a bottle to detangle my hair and it was still cracking dry.

Ouidad - same squeakiness..

Shea Moisture - deep treatment. Just oily and my hair does not like.

Curly Hair solutions - once the water rinses out it does make it soft, and dries rather quickly ... WHILE IN THE SHOWER!

Thanks ladies - this has been helpful. I will report back with hopefully progress... looking for a progress report but I need to know what product ingredients to watch out for... sigh
Which line of Suave were you using? I use Suave naturals and I dont believe they have protein in them (except the coconut one, I always hear that has protein)

A lot of Ojon products just do not do it for me.
Specifically the Damage Reverse Line, which is loaded with hydrolized wheat protein!!!

Devacurl- everything

Bb creme de coco (back before I was CG)

Joico k-pak- at first I thought it was the mineral oil but turns out my hair doesn't really mind mineral oil

Aphogee PT

Aveda- everything (back when I wasn't CG)

I'm not even that protein sensitive! My hair usually loves proteins but only in curly specific products, like CJ.

I recently discovered my protein sensitivity after lurking this forum. I found that a lot of the product you girls are mentioning did the same thing to my hair. Here are some:

-All of the AO stuff. I tried AOHR and GPB both poo and condish...yukk!
-Ecostyler protein (the dark one). This was ok in my hair until day 2.
-Organix coconut poo and condish. Straw- like stringy hair from the get go.
-Coonut oil. Frizzy, straw-like, and dry.

Also, the first time I tried going natural (i was about 15-16), a hairstylist told my mom that I needed lots of protein in my hair and recommended a protein based poo and condish. After using up the entire HUGE bottles of both, I hated my hair and decided to relax again. Now it hits me that my hair just didn't like the protein in it. After about another year and a half, I decided to go natural again and stuck with it that time.

There are probably a lot of other products that haven't worked for me because of the protein content and I probably didn't even know.

ETA: Jane Carter Solutions Revitalizing Leave In and Condition & Sculpt also did not work for me and I just discovered on Curlmart that they contain protein. Giovanni L.A. natural styling gel also did not work for me. I looked up the ingredients and it contains soybean protein. Could it be that my hair does not like ANY protein at all?

Cantu leave in Cond Shea butter, builds up turns hair to straw.
Organix coconut milk instant repair cream, feels great at first on most of my hair, but turns hair on top conger to straw.
Aloe Vera, jojoba, coconut oil never do good thing for my hair.

Omg does jojoba have protein? Does your hair not like it for other reasons or is it a protein issue? I am loving jojoba oil I really hope it will continue giving me good result..

jojoba doesn't give me a really bad reaction, but it does turn my curls limp. However, at the point I was using jojoba everyday on wet hair just out of the shower, my hair was still warm, so the hair shaft was still open. I haven't tried it since, so if it's working for you I say let it keep working.

Thumbs up My worse experience was...

My hair also started off loving the Shea Moisture but I have noticed my hair is dryer when using the product line exclusively so I will be divorcing this line fairly soon. I need my hair to be detangled and manageble without a battle.

My absolute worst experience to date:

Carol's Daughter Tui- Soy protein. I went three months trying to repair that damage. I walked into Sephora with a before picture of my hair and showed them my hair after... they gave me a refund and several samples of restorative (high end) treatment masks. The women were horrified!

Ampro Gel-my hair hated that when I was relaxed

The Beautiful Curls my Alafia is not working for me either....the search continues.

I have only used one EcoStyler and that is the one with Argan Oil---but I have since began to make my own flaxseed gel which is budget friendly and works just as well.

Does anyone have sensitivity to organic coconut oil? I find that I can use it no problems so far.

Shea Moisture Coconut & Hibiscus Curl Enhancing Smoothie

made my hair dry and mad at me... i couldn't figure out why my hair would instantly dry and get poofy as soon as i would apply the product.

it just hit me today after looking at the ingredients list that ive been applying silk protein to my hair no wonder my hair has been kicking and screaming...

too bad... i wanted my hair to like it because it worked for some many curlies on YT

Any Devacurl products ;p after 4 days of use, it suddenly flash-froze my hair and made a bunch of it fall out! Only then did it dawn on me (by coming here) that hops are protein...actually I am happy that happened, because that disaster was what made me learn that my hair hates protein!

Also,
Redken products
Desert Essences Coconut shampoo and condish
John Frieda products
Nexxus products
Sally Hershberger products...
egg and mayo treatments
coconut *milk*

...and probably a billion more that I never figured out, because at the time I didn't know about protein sensitivity...

My hair actually loves coconut oil, and on the jars I have of organic coconut oil, it says Protein: 0 Grams. So I know for sure it has none, although the coco milk does! And now, before I buy anything at all, I come here, and I use the filter menu on the left and I check the "no protein" box, and then I go read the reviews, to make sure I am not getting any protein products...very useful!

These are the ones that caused a problem right away. I'm sure there's more, Im trying to figure out the culprits of what is causing my hair to still be acting like there is something with protein I'm using.
AOMM doesn't have protein.

I had the nerve to co-wash with the V05 moisture milks with protein, then I used the shea moisture smoothie with protein, if that wasn't bad enough, I used Eco olive oil gel with another type of protein. I was at work, and my hair puffed up so bad, and looked so horrible, I wanted to go home. It was so hard, I thought it would break off if I touched it. I haven't used any of these products again, but I think what I'm going to do is try them one at a time to see which, if any I can use. I'm going to try the V05 first as a co-wash, cause I don't think I had any problem with it by itself, I use treseme naturals as my leave in. Then maybe I'll try the smoothie. now that its getting cold, I can just throw a hat on if I have a bad hair day. I have so much of all this stuff around the house, I hope I can use some of them, maybe I'm not sensitive to everything.

1) Mane n Tail
This not only left a gross buildup, but it made my hair dry and weird, and my friend, who isn't even sensitive, hated it too. She said it dried her hair out completely.

2) Fairy Tales Energizing Leave-in
I like this for a while...it was a great cowash, and it was natural. The smell was great, too! Then in winter, my hair got so dry from it (due to wheat and soy protein) that when my hair went across my face, it hurt and scratched!

3) Shea Moisture Smoothie
Ewww...this did nothing for hold, and it made my hair soooooooo dry.

4) Shea Moisture C & S Milk
This made my hair like straw too.

5) Alba Botanica Soft Style Cream
Maybe I'll try this again one day. It clumped me and made my curls soft at first, but then they died out and got dry. Turns out, it has moringa protein, or something?

Cure Care had keratin...
It wasn't terrible, but it wasn't great either. I think I can handle keratin more. However, wheat, soy, and silk are for my hair.

Suave Naturals Coconut didn't work for me. VO5 Moisture Milks and VO5 Silk...whatever is fine in my hair, though my hair likes the Moisture Milks better. I'm guessing my hair likes the protein in VO5 but not Suave--given how stubborn I can be, it's only appropriate that my hair is stubborn as well! Lol.
