Have you tried using aloe vera gel? I provides a soft hold & has no protein. Just a suggestion. Good luck!

I've been having very good luck with Naturelle, the Hypoallergenic gel from Sally's. It's protein free and reasonable price and no smell and gives me great results.

What have you tried?
I really like AG Liquid effects.
I also like Aquage Defining Gel

What kind of hold is it? Can you compare the hold to another product?

Nita, what brand of aloe vera gel have you had luck with? Do you have to mix it with anything? I went to the vitamin shoppe and there were atleast 4 different brands, they all said they were for skin tho so wasn't sure what one to use.

I think Aquage is not CG. There is a cone way at the bottom of the list.
I also use AG Re:Coil. That is more pastey. The hold with that I'm saying is a little stronger, less crunchy, more clumpy.
I apply that with sopping wet hair for the best results to get it dispersed. The liquid effects goes in easy, dries on the crunchy side and scrunches out to a great natural looking curl that is in tact but not weighted or gunked up at all.

I've got some Kinky Curly too. There is nothing like it that I can describe. I tend to avoid it bc it takes so long to dry. I will add it to the gel at times. It gives your hair good shine.

Have to say that I am LOVING the Sally generic conditioner - GVP Conditioning Balm. AWESOME, pleasant smell, great slip, and the best part is that its CHEAP!

Response: The bottle says medium to firm hold. I guess I would call it medium hold. I can also tell you it's a liquidy gel, if that helps.

I bought this after reading your post and so far I'm pleased. I used over KKNT for a medium hold which is what I was aiming for. Love that it is in a bottle instead of a jar!!!

Is this the Biotera Styling Gel? I used to use it, but I read that it contains protein, so I gave it away. Can someone check the ingredients, since Sally doesn't list the ingredients online?

Default Naturelle Hypo -allergenic Fragrance Free Gel

The gel name is listed above. From Sally's I paid 5.59 with my Sally's discount card, 8 oz.

Default Favorite Gel update

Just wanted to say that Naturelle Gel is my winter HG. (I just came to this conclusion yesterday). The NY dews are so low and it worked for me.

My summer HG gel is KCCC with KKKT under it.

My Flax seed gel works all year around with excellent results and I add agave in the summer, cut that in winter.

Hope this helps. This info has come from 2 1/2 years of experimentation.

I couldn't find the Naturelle gel at my local Sally's, but I picked up the Biotera gel and I think I'm going to love it in the winter, but the hold just isn't enough for right now.

I'm having some success right now w/ a mixture of CK and the HESMU. I'm still looking for my summer HG gel (dews now reaching 70+). I want to try both the Joico Joigel (w/ Keratin) that rcc has raved about, as well as BRHG (apparently the silk amino acids is fairly tolerable), but I'm having trouble find both locally. I'll probably have to break down and order from amazon.

I just picked up a tube of Aussie Instant Freeze and I'm cautiously optimistic! It seems to have a medium-firm hold; the best hold so far from a protein free gel! The only protein-free gels I've tried are HETT, HESMU and Got2B Spiked Up and hated all of them.

L.A. Looks NutraCurl rocks It has been the lightest weight gel that has worked really well the only other one protein free i can compare it to is KCCC which gives me extreme crunch (hold) no matter how much/little I put in.
