Red face Any inexpensive protein gels out there?

After messing around with my hair, I have realized my hair really hates protein and aloe vera. It gets hard, frizzy, and completely unmanageable. After I ran out of gel, I went back to my old love 3-in-1 mousse from Walgreens but this time around has not been working very well. I'm running low and want to start looking into gels, what are some protein-free, cheap gels? I'm thinking of trying L.A. looks curly one (green bottle with Avocado Oil)...what do you think?

Whoops! Messed up on the question, I meant protein FREE

To Gee,
Like you I can not use protein gels either. The gel you mention is indeed protein free and cheap, so try it. I did try it and it did not work for me...
My signature has my products all are protein free.

I like Aussie Instant Freeze and that's the only protein free gel that I've tried and liked! I'm not sure if the Volume one is protein free or not.

A few others are Herbal Essences Totally Twisted (not enough hold for me), HE Set Me Up (too sticky), and Got2B Spiked Up.

Hmm, I have heard people having less luck with the L.A. looks one and good luck with Aussie. I think I'm going to go with Aussie! Thanks girls!

Have been trying to avoid proteins and glycerin so I just picked up Aussie Instant Freeze and like it a lot! May replace my beloved hard holding LALSG with it. I'm surprised it's not mentioned more around here.

After reading this about Aussie Instant Freeze gel. I was going to purchase it. Then I checked the ingredients and it does have protein (at least the ingredient list I was looking at).

Say it ain't so!!!! What's the protein? I didn't see any of the usual suspects...

I am pretty sure the "hops" is a protein. Anyone else know for sure?

Used the Aussie Instant Freeze today for the first time and I love it.

My HG products are Curl Keeper or Biosilk Rock Hard gelee - after poking around here I thought the glycerin in those products might be taking my color out faster (I cover my gray every three weeks!).

Anyway, this has nice hold and shine - I need to use it more to really get a feel for it but so far so good!

Method: Air dry 20 minutes, then diffuse for about 3 minutes for volume.

2/3 mix waves/curls - coarse, frizz prone, med. thick, porous, at-home color for gray, protein sensitive but I still need it sometimes, and I can't use glycerin in high humidity, NOT CG, wash with regular S&C 2x a week.

Maybe the hops isn't a very bad protein. I was doing a search on hops and read that it does give some protein sensitive people, like me, dryness.

Hops not listed on my tube. I googled the gel and hops comes up online in ingredient list but tube also looks different than current tube out in stores. Maybe the hops were removed?

Online it says humulus lumulus extract (hops) but humulus is not listed on my tube.

The online list also places the hops almost last on ingredients so if it is in there, at least it's in very small amounts.

This is great news! I am going to give it a try. I was looking on the online list of ingredients! Thanks for letting me know.

Not such good luck today using the Aussie Instant Freeze. Not enough hold and a coated feeling and a strange "no movement" look/feel despite the not enough hold situation. Weird.

Oh, well - now I know to just stick with what works for me. I would like it if my color stayed better but I guess it's a small price to pay if my usual products work in every other way.

I add a pea sized amount of BRHG to get the hold I want. It's been working for me. It is different than the LALSG that I'm used to but I'm trying to stay away from protein and glycerin.

I love AIF, KCCC, and Goddess Curls gel; rotating and layering them.
