protein sensitive, but did ok with deva stuff in the salon

I' always get straw like hair with protein, I have med. thick hair. But why then at teh Deva salon, she used all three products with protein, the no poo, the conditioner, and the bleave in and my hair came out so nice. Does that mean I like protein?? I still at home, have major spider web frizz, frizz on top and all this from when it's wet. And yet my hair feels rough and dry, not super soft. Should I risk a PT

They used the same products on my hair and it was a mess.. so your experience makes me curious, especially if you think youre pro-sensitive.

How did she physically handle your hair? What did she do differently in the styling process? maybe it wasnt necessarily the products used, but the handling.... I wouldnt risk a PT though until you know for sure whats up. That could take a while to fix if it goes wrong... took me almost two weeks to fix my hair back to normal when i realized one of my conditioners had a protein

What kind of protein(s) are in the Deva products?
Coarse texture, normal-high porosity, normal elasticity (Komaza Care), very weak waves
cleanser: Redken Fresh Curls Shampoo, CJ Daily Fix

rinse out: GVP Conditioning Balm, CJ Repair Me, CJ Smoothing

jellies/creams: CR Curl Maker, KCCC, UFD Curly Magic
gels: CJ CQ, BRHG

In that is the hops!! The low poo or no poo, can't remember had some other protein stuff, but the hops sticks out in my mind. It's in all their stuff.

I'm not really protein sensitive but my hair HATED devacurl!!! My hair has never been that rough and dry, and I had a ton of spiderweb frizz. It was just awful really. But in general, I do like proteins. Its all good in lines like curls, CJ, and SS, devacurl just wrecked my hair though.

Hi, I've been scoping the protein sensitive and protein hungry boards to learn more about proteins. I thought maybe my hair needed some protein because I switched to DevaCare products in January and my hair has been kind of blah for the past month or so. My hair product up until then had quite a few proteins in it. I did a gelatin protein treatment Sunday and my waves perked right back up.

Anyway, I saw this thread about the hops in Deva products being protein, but that didn't seem right to me. Tried googling it and it didn't sound like the hops extract was a protein. So I emailed Deva and flat out asked. They said:

Dear Jamie,

Thank you for contacting us at DevaCurl. We appreciate the opportunity to address your inquiry.

The ingredient you listed below [
Humulus Lupulus (Hops) Extract] is not a protein, as confirmed by our Deva chemists.

So that might be why your hair is ok with Deva products. It's not protein.
Hop, occasionally written HOP, is an abbreviation for Hsp70-Hsp90 Organizing Protein. It functions as a co-chaperone which reversibly links together the protein chaperones Hsp70 and Hsp90.

I got this from Wickapedia. I'm protein sensitive and I stay away from HOPs.

Any plants extracts, except oils, can contain amino acids and proteins. Protein like reactions from hops (the plant) aren't uncommon.
