Fine hair and protein sensitive?

Can one have fine hair and be protein sensitive? I did a PT (IAgirl's gelatin one) and my hair was curlier, soft and shiny. I started using protein rich products (LI, gel) as recommended after my curl analysis and my hair is hard, dry and crunchy. I also have more frizz.

Are there any fine haired curlies with protein sensitivity?

Even if you are protein craving you can OD on protein, I've found. So it may not be a sensitivity, just that you are getting a little too much. Or you aren't getting enough moisture to balance it. That's probably even more likely. Are you doing DT's, too? Sometimes I have to follow my PT with a DT right away.

I think you are definitely right about the balance. It's such a thin line! If I overdo the moisture, curls droop. Overdo the protein, straw!!

I washed, did a mild DT and used lots of LI and my hair is much better for it. I also didn't use any protein stylers today (a little in the LI). Maybe I just can't use protein stylers too often?

My question now is if my naked hair is already fairly shiny and healthy (low porosity) , are the PTs and DTs necessary or just overkill? Am I just making the build up worse?

Me too!

I have fine 3b curls and was told that my hair should like protein. However, after a couple of years, I think my hair needed a protein break. My hair started to feel like straw, got knotty, was frizzy and my curls were limp. I had been using a conditioner with protein as well as gel with lots of sea proteins. I switched my products so that only my co-wash contained protein -- everything else is protein-free and my hair is much happier. My current line-up:
Low poo - Mop C Hydrating (once a week)
Co-wash - Renpure Organics body & shine (green bottle) conditioner
Conditioner - Garnier Fructis Sleek & Shine NEW FORMULA with no cones
Leave-in conditioner - Garnier Sleek & Shine
Gel - Garnier Fructis Pure Clean Gel

Good luck!

I meant to respond to this a while back! It's nice to know I'm not the only fine haired curly that has some sensitivity to protein.

FrizzinFla, we actually have a lot in common -- 3a/b curls, fine texture, low porosity in South Florida! Do you mind if I PM you? You may be my hair twin!!

I have fine hair with high porosity (both of which typically love protein), but my hair seems to hate it!
