I can't decide if my hair likes aloe vera or not. If I mix it with bottled water and oil it seems ok, but without the water it's not so nice. Is it considered a protein?

Maybe its to much not diluted? Like taking a shot compared to drinking a mixed drink? Sorry that's the 1st comparison that came to mind lol!

Lol! Good analogy! I've tried it a variety of ways and can't seem to figure it out.

I have not yet found a way for my curls to like Aloe Vera juice or gel.

Me: 3c, very thick
BC- May 2010
Current routine:
pre poo: avacado, banana babyfood, grapeseed oil, and silk amino acid. Cleanser: DC No Poo 1x a week and BC 1x a week. DT: GVP Cond balm and grape seed oil
Co-wash: GVP CD, TJ tea tree
Leave-in: GVP CD, TJ tea tree, and grape seed oil
Styling: HETT and castor oil
DD (8 & 6 yo): both4s (1 thick, 2 thin) keep in 2strand twists
DD (4yo): 3b (very thin, hard to grow) keep in single braids with lots of beads for protection
For me Aloe behaves like protein, so I stay away from it alltogether.
3A, Protein Senitive, Low Porosity,
Med-Course
Wash: Suave Naturals Conds (excluding Coconut), CVSB
Rinse out/Leave In: GVP Cond. Balm, KCKT,
Style: Naturelle Gel(winter HG), KCCC (summer HG), Flaxseed gel
SOTC: JCNS

ive wondered about this as well, cause when i started using aloe vera my hair LOVED it but after awhile, it made my hair all icky, like what protein does. but i find it ok when ive mixxed it with oil or somthing like that then use it my hair seems to like that

my hair: 3c, high porosity, high density and coarse hair (i think i finally figured that all out)
my hair loves conditioner only styling!
my hair goal length is bra strap length when curly.

I also blog about my hair journey, please feel free to read and comment/ask questions http://www.naturallycurly.com/blogs/...air-blogs/2494
My hair reacts the same to aloe as it does to too much protein...dry, straw like hair. It's hard to find products without aloe. It's very frustrating to have all these limitations, no protein, no aloe and not glycerin.
Hair: Medium Texture, Normal Porosity, Low elasticity
Curl Pattern:3C

Poo: KC Come Clean (once/wk)
Clarify: Ouidad Water Works (once/month)
RO: Suave Wild Cherry Blossom
LI: Suave Wild Cherry Blossom
Gels: HETT and FSG
DT: CJCR (once/wk)
PT: Yogurt with coconut oil and avocado oil (once/month)
I mix aloe vera juice in my leave in and it is wonderful.

I had a recent protein mishap & during the ensuing damage control regimen I thought everything was under control, enter aloe

My precious KCCC has aloe. I hadn't realized that during recovery my hair might not appreciate aloe & it did not

As soon as I applied it, the hair seized. I went to Sally's and got the GVP conditioning balm. Holy moley is that good stuff, and cheap too! Under 8$.

I also bought a bottle of Shea Moisture African Black Soap. Poo'd with the stuff & slathered in a good amount of the conditioning balm, & rinsed out. Scrunched in a bunch more after it dried. To my dismay, I woke up this morning to -0 curl.

I was at a loss as to what to do this morning. Afraid to try any products with protein. I washed with Loreal Evercreme, and used TJTTT RO. Still no curl but my hair felt like it was back to normal. I ended up using KCCC & BANG!....curls are back!!!!

So there's a moral to this story. (YMMV depending on your hair's properties) When I used KCCC before my hair had fully recovered from protein overload, the aloe in KCCC made my hair act similarly to protein.

Once well hydrated with DC tx, my hair not only was able to handle the KCCC, but needed it to develop it's curl again.

I'll likely continue with the protein free products and use products with Aloe instead as it seems my hair bounces back from the latter easier, especially with the use of the conditioning balm.

I was just wondering if the CJCR gives you any problem when deep conditioning, since it has aloe in it and you are sensitive?
