7 Weeks...Still Have Weird Hair From Protein

I haven't used anything with either glycerin, protein or aloe in almost 7 weeks.
The same 2 sections of my hair that got damaged the most.... matted, frizzy, dry haven't improved. When I have a moisturizing product in my hair it's better. Once I wash it (or wet it) again...it goes back to the same frizzy mess. I am doing lots of conditioning. When I wake up or lean my head back against a chair...it's a rats nest in the back again!
I have the feeling I can't repair this, just wait for it to grow out. Cutting isn't an option because the damage goes all the way to my scalp.
Has anyone had any luck getting their hair back from this?
If so what did you do/use?
Sealing with an oil and laying off gel, if u don't already, may help

Thanks for your suggestions. Would coconut oil be ok?
^^^ only trial and error will tell. Coconut oil is one of two penetrating oils, so for some, it does not work...

I have some and will try it....thanks again.
Coconut oil strengthens the protein in your hair. Probably not what you want to use. What products are you using? Have you done DT's? What are your hair properties?
remember, with all advice or suggestions for your hair, YMMV!!
My hair:
2b wavy, medium texture, low porosity, med-high density. Protein finicky.
My routine:
Cleansing: DCNP, every 4-5 days (occasionally use CJ cleansers).
RO: CJSC, occasionally use JCDC
LI: KCKT or CJSL
Gel: KCCC, CJCIAB for 2nd day hair (sometimes third)

Heat is my friend: warm water rinses, steam caps, and diffuse dry. I love CLU cloths and my Denman.
R u sealing with coconut oil or pt-ing with it? That would make a difference in my recommendation to use it. The oil won't suffice as a pt. On the other hand, coconut milk may work. Some people do well with using the oil for sealing...

My hair is 2a, fine/med texture, med/dense, normal elasticity & porousity.
I have been using Yes to Carrots shampoo, Mop C Curl Defining shampoo, Burt's Bees Avocado Butter as a LI (been using this for a long time as a leave in before I went CG and never had an issue with it), GVPCB as a RO, Shea Moisture RSBRC as a LI, and Marie Dean Vanilla Lemon Mousse as a LI. I've also been doing DT with SS Deeply Decadent.
I don't use styling products as I haven't found one yet that doesn't either weigh down my hair or give me an itchy scalp.
You might consider rechecking some of the ingredients. I see a bit of protein, aloe, and glycerin in those products. Good luck!

Burt's Bees Avocado Butter is veeeerrry heavy! Especially as a leave in! The way I see it, it seems a good clarifying shampoo may just turn ur world around. U may not have had trouble with it in the past because u were using sulfates. Try substituting Burt's bees with another LI, like KCKT or GVP Conditioning balm. Let me know how it goes!

I actually thought of that as I was writing my response. I use a tiny pea size on damp hair(I have shoulder length hair) of the Burt's Bees after washing my hair. I have done this since stopping sulfate shampoo months ago with good result. The problems started when I began using Natures Gate shampoos/conditioners exclusively. Plus I used SS Protein Spray 2-3 times per month. It was ok for a while then I started getting the tangled mess. When I read the labels I saw that NG has several types of protein in the shampoos/conditioners I was using.
I used a clarifying shampoo today...letting it air dry. Hopefully it helps.
Thanks for the helpful suggestions!
After the clarifying shampoo I used Vo5 Blackberry sage conditioner as a LI.
My hair is finally dry and feels soft, no sign of any tangly bits or straw like feel but it also is limp and most of the waves are.....gone.
That is typical when I use most LI conditioners....hair feels great but body/waves are almost nonexistent.
^^^ It may be that ur hair just doesn't like the proteins in the NG. I know my hair didn't. It also had TOO much protein for me. My baby fine hair likes a little silk or keratin in my daily rinse out ONLY! Sometimes our hair can be a little stuck up like that

That is very true. I know this method is lots of trial and error. And I don't mind having some bad hair days because a product didn't work for me. But when you always had nice silky hair and it turns to nasty dry straw....and stays that way. That's hard to take!
I am going to try adding silk or keratin in a RO and see if that works.
Thanks again for your helpful tips!
I also use protein only in a RO and I still follow with a protein free conditioner. Type of protein, for me, doesn't seem to matter but it does for some as the op mentioned. I laid off protein completely for a short time but discovered my hair needs some - most do need some. It's a matter of finding the type and or amount for your hair. But you have been using protein when you thought you weren't so be extra discerning with your ingredients as you figure this out. You can also do a stretch test every time you wet your hair to see if you should use a protein RO or regular. You'll get there!
