Is this a good way to test if my hair likes protein?

I have a little 2 oz. bottle of the Colorful Neutral Protein Filler from Sally's. I've read where some people will saturate their hair with it and leave it on for 20 minutes or so. I've never used one of these before... Do I condition afterward? Will that mess with the result? How will protein-sensitive hair feel after this versus protein-craving? *still figuring things out*

The first protein treatment I did I tested it out on one curl behind my ear to see how my hair would respond. After the first treatment my hair was curlier and appeared to be thicker which is how I know my hair does well with protein. I always deep condition after every treatment, I would follow the instructions for that particular product though.
I would just add a few drops to whatever conditioner you normally use...or perhaps to your leave in.
That is a hardcore treatment which doesn't suit all heads of hair. Best to try something gentler, a little hydrolysed protein in a conditioner base say.

IMO people do not divide neatly into protein craving and protein sensitive; it is a spectrum. Some do well with keratin, others with wheat. some can use a protein little and often, others only in the summer, some never, still others can do hardcore treatments.
2a-2c, medium texture, porous/ colour treated. Three years CG. Past bra strap length heading for waist.

Treatments: Komaza Care Matani, coconut/ sweet almond/ fractionated coconut oils, Hairveda Sitrinillah
Leave in: Fructis Sleek & Shine (old), Gliss Ultimate Volume, various Elvive
Styler: Umberto Giannini jelly, Au Naturale styling gelee
Flour sack towel, pixie diffuse or air dry.
Experimenting with: benign neglect
