aveda uses wheat proteins, they have the aveeno soft hold and style cream that has wheat proteins, don't know if it's a curl enhancer. alagio curl balm is nice but it uses silk proteins but i looove it, and they sell it at king kullen.

Boots Essentials Curl Creme is great, but it's a UK store brand, Boots the Chemist (chain drugstores), where it's quite cheap. It can be imported, but shipping and handling are not cheap. If you know you like it, and order in quantity, the cost per jar drops considerably.
I found Alagio Curl Balm amazing, but incredibly drying. If you decide you want to try it, it really helps to know what the tube looks like: it's so slender that it takes up almost no shelf space, and if someone has taken the tube at the front of the shelf, it can be hard to spot. Somebody I know had good luck mixing it with something else, but I can't remember what.
