Mislabeled "Organic" Personal Care Products Lawsuit
I found this article on Jezebel.com this morning. I'm not happy to see that a Kinky-Curly product was on the list, and I'm wondering what was identified as non-organic.
Apologies if this has already been posted elsewhere on the site: ------- The full list of companies and their mislabeled products that the Center for Environmental Health identified in the lawsuit are listed below (the products listed are just examples; CEH has identified multiple mislabeled products from the companies): Advantage Research Laboratories, Inc./Murray’s Worldwide, Inc.: Parnevu T-Tree No Lye Conditioning Relaxer System Aubrey Organics, Inc: Collagen & Almond Enriching Moisturizing Lotion Beauty Without Cruelty/Lotus Brands, Inc: Organic Aromatherapy Facial Cleanser Boots Retail USA Inc: Boots Amazon Forest Brazil Nut & Vanilla Body Wash California Inside & Out, Inc: Out of Africa Handwash Tea Tree with Essential Oil Colomer U.S.A.: Crème of Nature Kiwi & Citrus Ultra Moisturizing Shampoo Cosway Company, Inc/Head Organics Company: Clearly Head Conditioner Curls, LLC: Curlicious Curls Cleansing Cream Organic Shampoo derma e® Natural Bodycare/Stearns Products, Inc: Psorzema Body Wash Hain Celestial Group: Jason Thin-to-Thick Conditioner and Baby Avalon Organics Silky Cornstarch Baby Powder House of Cheatham, Inc: Organics by Africa’s Best Hair Mayonnaise International Trade Routes of New York, Inc/Laboratorios Phergal: Naturtint Green Technologies Permanent Hair Colorant Kinky-Curly Hair Care: Kinky-Curly Spiral Spritz Kiss My Face Corporation: Hold Up Styling Mousse Lafe’s Natural BodyCare/Lafe T. Oh I see Organic Root Stimulator is on the list.. anyone with a little familiarity with hair care ingredients would be able to tell that their products are hardly "organic". I doubt that very many products out there calling themselves "organic" are truly so.
Again, it's marketing and pulling at people's emotional response toward a product. You wouldn't buy XYZ product if it was called "Toxic Petroleum by-product Hair Conditioner", but the minute they add a little sea weed, wheat germ oil, or whatever to the mixture it magically becomes "organic". :confused5: |
I suspect that the issue is the use of the term organic versus natural. Ingredients can be natural without being organic (which means they were grown without pesticides and chemical fertilizers among other things). When I look at the KC site it mentions organic haircare but doesn't claim to have 100% organic ingredients that I saw. Look at the list of products they've cited....I think they may be trying to make a point :)

Very interesting; thanks for posting!
