First Time with GVP conditioning balm
I am new to CG and after reading about the evilness of silicones I switched from Pantene Hydrating Curls to GVP conditioning balm with VO5 strawberry moisturizing conditioner as a cowash.
I saw a difference immediately.
My dry hair is soft and my curls are looser.
My hair is still a bit frizzy but I attribute that mostly to the weather...
But I think GVP is great!

I love the original Biolage condish and I love this just as much, if not more. It's great for me year round, leaving my hair soft and silky and well-moisturized without weighing it down. The smell is light and pleasant, too.

I just got this yesterday and wow. It is really great. My curls are more defined and shiny. Great product for the price.

I love this stuff!!! TONS of slip and it is so moisturizing, I couldn't believe the slip my hair had even after I got out of the shower! And such a cheapie condish that isn't loaded with ingredients that my hair hates.

My HG Gave Up On Me! -- But Why??
So I'm a huge fan of the GVP Biolage conditioning balm. I used it constantly from March through August. It worked great through say June -- instantly detangled my hair, gave great slip, really moisturized my hair and got it in much better shape than before.
But I started noticing that it was no longer working the same. I'd put it in my hair and my hair would stay really tangled, it didn't detangle easily, and my hair wasn't curling anymore. I kept using it though, for another month. Why does a product stop working? I can't think of any other variables -- it was a dramatic difference in how it worked and felt in my hair. Has anyone had this happen with the GVP??
So I've switched off, for the time being, using the Aura Naturelle (from Sally's) cherry almond revitalizing conditioner. From the instant it hit my hair, all the tangles dissappeared -- like the GVP used to do -- and I got great hair, all my waves were back from the first time. I don't know why this happens, but I hope I can go back to the GVP at some point. I highly recommend the Aura CO, too. I'm using it to detangle and as a leave-in. Brown tube, about $7 for 8.5 oz so more spendy than GVP, but a very good product. Along with it, I started using the EcoStyler crystal gel, with great results. Sally's, yay!

You all are PJ enablers....ENABLERS I tell you!! I have yet to see this at my local Sally's but I intend to look again. I'm intrigued.
You must have the "upscale" Aldi's. I have never seen anything but Suave knock-offs.

Maybe you just needed to change co's for a bit. Maybe your hair just got too used to it - or maybe the weather?

Rozetta, so glad to hear that you are loving the Aura CAB. That's been one of my faves for years, and when I first started using it, it even had a cone in it, but I see that it's been removed.
For me, the GVP conditioning balm is meh at this point. To be honest, I get frustrated just trying to get that thick stuff out of the bottle! I absolutely love the quantity/price of the GVP, but what it does for my hair doesn't bowl me over.

GVP Condition Balm is my go-to cowash. I load it on my ends on soaking hair, then add more water to distrubute through hair. It feels like it foams up this way.

Hiya, C2G! You were the person who recommended the Aura to me, so I finally picked up a tube. It's working great for me, for now. Thank you for the rec! But the GVP was amazing for my hair, for months. I hope it starts working again. Yes, it is very thick and hard to squeeze out of the bottle, so I always leave it upside down. I was really glad to have something I could turn to, though -- the Aura is a nice change. Love the smell! We'll see how long it works for me. I wish I understood why a product just stops working. The knots would simply dissolve the instant the GVP hit my hair; no more. But the Aura does the same thing -- for now. To paraphrase Freud: What does hair want??!

I've never been in an Aldi's that doesn't have Shique conditioner, which is their Biolage knock-off. I usually get it for $2.99 - even better. Look for a silvery-gray bottle. I think it has a blue cap.

I absolutely love this stuff! Perfect for my moisture-loving hair. Nice and thick, and I get lots of slip...smells yummy, too--not too sweet, very light scent

I love this balm. My 3c/4a hair becomes so detangled which is a great thing for me since more than 50 percent of breakage comes from me trying to comb out my tangles. So I have less than 10 percent of breakage with this product and it moisturizes. If you dont like slip in your hair, you probably wouldnt like this product. I am in love

I finally went to Sally and purchased this yesterday. OMG, it's amazing and my new favorite product. I used it as a RO after leaving it on for 5 minutes and there is no frizz. It's thick, and I used two palm fulls, and it didn't weigh down my hair, which so many products do. This is the first product to get rid of my flat head! I was so impressed by this product that I even sucked it up and plunked down my $5 for that Sally Card, which I said I wouldn't purchase.

For some reason, the Biolage conditioning balm is my HG, and the GVP version does absolutely nothing but tangle my hair!

I have been using this condish for 2-3 years now. It is always in my rotation of products. I'm not using it so much right now due to summer and the fact that the second ingredient is a humectant (Propylene Glyco) which isn't good for my hair right now. Really promotes extra frizz for me. It's my go to condish in fall-spring months though.

GVP CB and Aldi Shique
One question: is either or both of these protein free?
Thanks!
