Default NOT a fan of gels

I really don't like using most gels because I hate how hard they make my hair feel. I've been lokking for something for so long that will provide a boost to my curls while moisturizing and not making my hair look dull and frizzy.

I have very coarse, kinky, curly, 4a, African-American, rust-colored hair (naturally jet black). I want to start experimenting with making my own products that my hair will agree with. I think I may be protein sensitive so as of late I have been steering away from protein rich products and ingredients. My hair has a hard time retaining moisture.

So, I guess I'm asking for your help with any homemade protein sensitive moisturizing recipes(shampoos, CONDITIONERS, daily condish, butters, etc.). I stress conditioners because I want to try to commit to the CG method. Finally, if you ladies with experience wouldn't mind straightening me out with the difference between butters and pomades I would really appreciate it. Can you use both daily?
