Flax oil on hair?

I bought Spectrum Organic Flax Oil with the intention of adding it to my diet. oops. It went in the refrigerator door and was forgotten. It expired in January. Do you think it would be a good oil to use on my hair? I thought I could apply it, sleep on it and wash it out in the morning. Any better ideas? Have you heard of applying flax oil to hair or skin?
Hair: tight waves to loose curls. Thick. Coarse. Dry. Natural redhead until bright white strands popped out. Color with FramColor now. Shampoo: alternate Phytojoba with Cowash: Suave coconut, Paul Brown or those that didn't work well as a conditioner. Conditioner: can't find one heavy enough. Product: Aveda Brilliant Humectant Pomade. DT: Coconut Oil
I have used flaxseed oil topically on my hair time and again with good results. I never used it on my skin, but I know you can use it that way too.

Thanks for you response. I went ahead and tried it. I put on a little overnight. It washed out easily the next morning. I think I'll try more next time.

I heard you can also oil your wooden cutting boards and wood furniture with it too.
