Protein: Oil? Eggs? Yogurt?

Hi it's Katie!

I was just wondering what a good home-made protein treatment would contain. I've been reading up on it and a lot of articles mentioned yogurt, eggs, castor oil, etc. but it would help me to get some curly girls' opinions!! I don't know if my hair is protein sensitive: I don't think it is. It's very thick and I'm growing out heat damage. It's about a 3a right now, and I'm happy with the way the curls are coming back in, but I just want to make them a little softer and more bouncy. I heard it helps

Any ideas? Replies would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
Eggs are a good idea.
Once a while I just mix up the following together and leave it in clarified hair for 30-45 minutes:
Eggs
Yogurt
Olive oil
Coconut oil
A bit of cone free conditioner
Honey

later, I co wash it out properly. Shampooing kind of ruins the effect of a DT. Be careful though, eggs can cause bacteria and other microbes to grow if it is not washed out properly.you can finish off with a vinegar rinse.
Also remember never to use heat on your hair when you use eggs

CLARIFY- I use sulphate shampoos silicone free(diluted), vinegar rinses
DC-pure coconut oil, olive oil, sometimes a SMT

I'm not sure, but I read somewhere that eggs do give protein-like effects, but it doesn't last long because the molecules(?) are too large to penetrate the hair strands. I've tried it, and I like the effects it gave my hair, except for the smell and that even though I use the coldest water to rinse it off, I still have white cooked bits stuck in my hair. Ew. Though I don't think it hurts to try it for a temporary effect.

Have you heard of iAgirl's gelatin protein treatment? I heard that it can actually penetrate and it works for me, though I went a bit overboard... But that's a different story.

As far as I remember from my school biology lessons, gelatin is also a form of protein. I have never used it before. But it might work as an intensive protein treatment.

Sometimes I use the eggs and mayo mix but I always get little pieces of egg stuck in my hair so instead i use yogurt. Here's my recipe.

4tbsp of plain greek yogurt
2tbsp of applce cider vinegar
2tbsp of olive oil
2tbsp of honey
and a splash of vanilla

The honey and vanilla I use to mask the scent of the yogurt. I put in the mixture focusing on my ends and work my way up leaving it in for 20-30 mins. Then I wash it out with conditioner. And I always LOVE the result. In fact I just did one Christmas Eve and my hair is still doing good. Hope I helped.
