You could try more oil. I started out with 1/2 tbsp and it wasn't enough. Either that or cut back to 1 tsp salt. Somewhere else, someone posted that it was drying to their hair. Good Luck!

Edited to add: I have also never used this without showering/conditioning first, so it is always on wet hair. I have never used just this product in the morning. That may have an effect on how it works, too.

I put in a little more oil in the mix and today I have soft waves and some curls. It's not real defined, but I can stand that better than the producty feeling. I am going to tweak this a bit next time with a little less Epsom salt. This is probably best sprayed on in the shower because my floor got sort of oily.

I made up a batch and put it in a big bottle to put in the fridge, then filled up one of the Jessicurl trial size spray bottles that I saved (Gelebration Spray) to keep in the bathroom (no problems with that).

Here's what I used for the "variables":
Jojoba oil
Thermasilk gel
VO5 MM Strawberries & Cream

So far I haven't noticed any curl enhancing properties for me, but it's been great for spritzing on the ends of my hair once it's dry to give them a bit more definition.

I can't wait to try other "variables"! Great way to use up forgotten products, too!

So far, I really like this stuff, but I like it best for second day hair. It didn't give me tons of definition when I used it on wet hair (first day), but the next day, when I comb my hair dry, spray it on over and under and plop for a few minutes, I actually have the most curls I ever have. It also gives a lot of volume. So, Lavender, this may be your ticket to volume and second day hair!

On second thought (or is it third thought?), the vote is still out. Last night my hair felt so dry, just parched and it was like a tumbleweed this morning. We'll see. I still like the idea of a spray that revives, but (like I said), I will have to tweak this one.

I dunno, Maudie, my hair looks like a disaster when I wake up . Even with a satin pillowcase, my hair always looks like I just went twenty rounds with a windstorm in the desert. It's dry-looking, frizzy and just a mess! So far, I've never been able to accomplish second day hair unless I'm staying put at home and I just put it up.

I'm glad this stuff is working so well for you! I can't wait till it's gone to play around with a different gel in the formula .

I can never ever do 2nd day hair. I must do some wild things while sleeping because my hair could never be put back into place. My 2nd day hair is a baseball cap while going to pick up my coffee and paper on the weekend

I made this two days ago. Ilove it! I haven't used it alone though. I used it 1st day ontop of dove define texture molding creme. Second day as a refresher and for the first time ever I had wearable second day hair! I even got to wear it down that is something I usually don't even do for first day hair. i only made 1 change, I cut the oil amount to half. My hair is too easily weighed down. Im officially in love.

i used your spray! i liked the shine it added, but my hair is so thick that it just didn't provide enough hold. you can see what i mean in my pics.

Musica-al, I made a batch of your spray recently & my DH (a 3A/B) wanted to try it, so I gave him a bottle. He loves it! He co-washes everyday, so then he sprays this into his hand and scrunches it all over and air-dries. He's been getting these beautiful ringlets in the back of his shoulder-length hair, and nice springy spirals everywhere else!

As for me, I'm such a PJ that it's hard for me to stick to one routine , but the times that I did try your spray, I had nice definition. Next time I make a batch, I'm going to use the Suave Coconut cond instead of the V05 Strawberry one, and I think I'll use it more often...something about that Strawberry scent gets to me after awhile. Thanks again for your recipe

Wow! I'm glad this is working well for almost everyone who tries it. I would like to mention that I was getting frustrated with this for a while. I was using Kiss My Face gel and conditioner the last few times. It didn't dissolve well in the hot hot water and my hair was frizzy with no hold or curl. I made it up again last night with Tresemme gel and vo5 conditioner and the original results are back. So it truly does depend on what kind of gel/conditioner you use. I don't think it has to be these 2 particular items, but some (like the KMF) simply do not work well.

I've tried this, with salt, honey and oil. While my curls are great, my hair feels almost grainy. Any ideas?

Maybe you should cut back on the salt?

I've made a couple things that were close to this but never with these exact ingriedients- I'll have to try it this week! Do you use any other products with this or is this all that you use in your hair now?

My hair looks AWFUL second day also. Maybe when I try making this spray that will change.

Musica_al:

I just mixed up another batch of the All In One spray a few weekends ago, and wow! It's even better than the first time I made it! Here were my variables:

VO5 Moisture Milk Conditioner in Passionfruit Smoothie

1/2 Tbsp Sesame Oil ~ Cold-pressed, so no scent (instead of Olive Oil)

half Sea Salt mixed with half Epsom Salt instead of just the Epsom Salt

Aura HypoAllergenic Gel (this is GREAT at staying emulsified in the mix!!)

1 Tbsp Fruit of the Earth Aloe Vera Gel (I think this gives a touch more hold without stiffness)

I am just in love with this mix! The scent is awesome! I've been spraying it into my hands and scrunching it into soaking wet hair that has only a little conditioner left in from my rinse. Then for a little more definition where I need it (mostly my canopy & bangs), I put about a dime size of Aura Hypo gel in my hand and squirt about two more sprays of the All In One into that, emulsify and scrunch where I need it. Then I plop for an hour and air dry the rest of the way with some duck-bill clips at my roots for lift. I've gotten 4TH DAY HAIR with this, even able to wear it down on the 4th day...unbelievable! At night before I go to bed, I've been spraying a few squirts in my hands and scrunching around the canopy, then doing the same thing in the morning, just leaving it to airdry form that little bit of moisture. I'm doing the CG routine, and my hair still smells great & fresh even on the fourth day...in fact, I've gotten compliments on not only the curls but also the fragrance. My DH also loves this new mix even better than when I'd made it the first time! Thanks again!

hello everyone I been looking around today and made a few post I have been COing for 4 weeks and wow what curls I have had I have dried my hair straight for years and years and I have went curly 2 times and was trying to find a product to use in my hair so thought I would try this. I actually hate gel the stiff feel it gives your hair but thought this would work. The 2 times I wore it curly I used water conditioner and oil mixed as a spray in but I had been using it also drying it straight and was getting good results but thought the gel and stuff would give good curl definition but not sure. I have joico k-pac in it now and im going to try the mix and plopping after I rinse it out. I love curls on other people but just cant seem to get use to them on me. The one problem Im having is the layers the sides are shorter and dont want to curl to much so thought this might help/ I will let you know

I added a little bit of aloe to my already mixed up bottle and my hair seems that much curlier and more defined! Great idea. Has anyone tried using aloe vera gel as the gel in this recipe? I'm thinking of trying it on my next batch. The summer humidity has really cut down on the hold for this spray for me and raised the frizz factor. I never had any luck with aloe as a traditional gel but maybe in a spray form? I'll post results.

I also used aloe vera gel in this, and tried it on dry hair at home after I had been doing CG for only a few days. It made my hair noticeably curlier even just scrunching in dry with no rewetting or other products. Obviously it would be better to use it as you describe, scrunching into wet hair so it is distributed better... but I have yet to do that because having just discovered CG and this site about a month ago, I seem to be buying products like a madwoman (aloe vera gel, Matrix Amplify gel--which has a cone that I didn't notice until I got it home, Aussie Mega gel, TRESemme curling gel which also has a cone, and as of last night, Herbal Essences Humidity Defying gel).

As you can see, I can't even use half of the stuff because I didn't read the ingredients carefully enough. So my husband would probably be happier pocketbook-wise if this homemade product works out. Before CG, I used to wash and condition my hair with whatever was on sale at night, put in a couple squirts of a Vive silicone serum, blow-dry while brushing, then brush and put in a bun in the morning. One bottle of the serum lasted for months and other than that I would never have considered buying a hair product. Now I am obsessed with my hair. Oh well...

One tip if you are finding it hard to dissolve everything--I was using Mill Creek Organics biotin conditioner (not sure if it is any good, just something I found at the health food store that was CG-friendly and contains all of the stuff Lorraine says a good conditioner should contain), which is very thick and translucent. I boiled the water and the conditioner still would not dissolve. So, I mixed everything up in a large measuring cup and beat it with our hand blender using the regular blade attachment. This emulsified everything in no time flat. It separates somewhat in the fridge but is easy to resuspend by just shaking a few times.

I also ended up transferring it from the spray bottle to a squeeze bottle (like the kind for applying hair color that you get at Sally's); the version I made is thick enough that it's actually easier to squirt into your hand and scrunch in than it is to spray. Also solves the potential oily floor or shower problem, which is good because I'm a klutz.
