I made a homemade DT and IT was amazing.
Ok so last night I made a DT I got from Jess the mess who found it on a website. heres the recipe:
1 can coconut milk
1 banana
1 avacado
2 tbsp honey
1 tbsp oil
Ive never dted and i live in a very dry climate and right now im waiting on my CG products I bought off the internet to get here. So ive only been using Suave Naturals and the Herbal Essence Totally Twisted gel as hair supplies. Anyways after the dt my hait only felt a couple percent better. There was enough of the product that i froze the other portion after I put the other half on my head. I left it on for an hour and then washed it out. Like i said it wasnt all that amazing, and I didnt have amazing hair today.
Well tonight I wanted to try one more dt since I know my hair is super dry and it wouldnt hurt. I saw something about a banana mask, and decided since last nights used banana ill use banana again. Anyways here is my recipe :
1 overripe banana
2 TBSPs Honey
1 1/2 TBSPs Olive Oil
1 TBSPs Mayo
1/4 cup coffee
Conditioner (enough to make it however thick you want)
Make sure the banana is liquified, you dont want banana chunks in your hair. Also I added the coffee because I heard that coffee and caffeine did great things for your skin, I figured it could your hair too.
Anyways I left it on for an hour, and when I got in the shower I could already tell it was super soft. I rinsed it out, and it was incredibly soft, and as I went to comb the knots out I realized I didnt have any. I am incredibly happy with this DT.
What do you think? If you try it how did it work for you?
LOVE CurlyCara

If you're not a brunette, I'd pass on the coffee. If you're a blonde, it can darken your hair and if you're a red, it will darken you too. Mayo is just whipped egg white and oil. So whisk up an egg white, mix in some extra oil, honey, and for god sakes, use the baby food bannana or you will be picking banana chunks out of your hair. Try different oils and fruits until you find the combo your hair likes.

I AM a brunette, and if you dont want to go out and buy banana baby food i would jsut make sure to puree or liquify like I said. If you use a blender it works great or i used my hand tool that has a blade atatchment like a blender.
ALSO. It takes alot of coffee to dye your hair. You would need to rinse your hiar in coffee 15-20 times and let is sit for 15 minutes for it to dye your hair. SO blondes beware. but in this recipe yoru only using 1/4 cup in a large amount of batter. But you can use less if you would like.
Also redheads shouldnt beware. I dont need to worry to much about darkening your hiar. As coffee doesnt persay dye jsut tint. but coffee is known to make red overtones that redheads have more vibrant.

I did not cowash i just jumped in the shower got my hair wet but not soaking, and then left it on for an hour. let me warn you its a little runny so instead of a shower cap i just put a towel around my hair and washed it the next day.

Well I didnt have honey so I used molasses, and didnt have egg or mayo so I used some Cesar dressing...
Kidding on the dressing but I saw it in the fridge when looking for something with egg in it and had a good laugh
I did one banana, 1T EVOO, 2T molasses, 1/4 cup strong coffee.
I went ahead and washed before hand, and ended up leaving it on my hair for 2 hours - I just plopped it in an old tshirt.
I co-washed it out and added product as I did the other day on my "best" cg hair day so far. I've got it plopping right now. to be continued...

Hey CurlyCara, how did you get the banana totally liquified? I remember when I first tried to use a banana for a DT and ended up with little banana pieces in my hair for days, lol. I made sure it was ripe and used a good food processor/blender to do it, and it seemed totally liquified but apparently wasn't, otherwise I wouldn't have had that problem!

I make sure my banana is past ripe to where its already getting to its own mushy life stage, and I dont own a blender or a food processer but I have a mixer that has a blender/processer blade attachment, and I just do it for a couple minutes. When I think im done I do it for an extra 30 seconds just to make sure.

I had the banana pieces too - they're the seeds actually. I just figured they are tough and wont ever break in the blender! Next time Ill just go through my hair with a comb when i have the cowash going....

Well, I'm also waiting for products to be shipped, so in desperation (my hair was killed by a salon a month ago) I'm giving this a go! In my hair right now, hoping to see some results!
Thanks for the recipe

I tried this and so far, so good. I didn't use a banana since I didn't have any and my hair doesn't need much protein anyway. But I did keep the rest of the recipe as it was and left in in my hair for 1+ hour. My hair is still a little damp, maybe 80% dry. It's very shiny and I notice my curls are a little more defined as well. Great treatment, though the smell is not that great. The coffee helped improve it though!
