After reading about homemade spray recipes I created my own...a sort of combo from 2 recipes I found. This spray (once it dried) left my hair feeling so incredibly soft, it revived my curls, and it did not leave a strong scent.

((My spray bottle is pretty small so the measurements below are small.))

- Purified water (2 oz)
- Extra Virgin Coconut Oil (2 Tbs.)
- Pure Organic Lavender Essential Oil (8 drops)

Got the Lavender Oil from Mountain Rose and the Coconut Oil from Nutiva.

I was thinking of using 3 parts water, 1 part conditioner, and some sweet orange essential oil. Any thoughts on this anyone?

I like:
2 oz water
2 oz aloe juice
1/4 tsp sweet almond oil or any beneficial oil
a few drips of honey or agave nectar
pinch of mag. sulfate
a couple drops of essential oil

boil the water and mag sulfate so it dissolves completely. Add the honey or AN. Then add the rest.
you can add glycerine, or grapefruit seed extract to help it last longer, but keep it refridgerated.

shake well before use because the oil and water will seperate.

i have found this works just as well as some of the spritzers at curl mart like jessicurl or deva.

*the mag sulfate may be a little drying, but you can add a little more oil or leave it out. i have found a little in there helps pull my waves in tighter. and the agave nectar helps refresh hold.
Curlsnswirls likes this.

I have a curling spray; the recipe is always changing but the latest is:

4 oz warm rose water or distilled water
1 T aloe gel
1 tsp Himalayan crystal salt ( for volume, body and curl)
1 tsp magnesium oil ( for shine and frizz control)
1 tsp magnesium sulfate (for curl formation)
1 tsp glycerin

Just shake until everything is dissolved. Use a light amount on damp hair ( too much may be drying or crunchy)

I guess I'm just lazy - these all sound like too much trouble to me when just aloe and water works fine, LOL. And it's moisturizing, not drying.

I like it better than Jessicurl, Deva, Noodlehead or Curls sprays, all of which can be sticky/tacky and leave my hair looking dirty too quickly.

I do think aloe and water is the best for dry hair. Sometimes I add glycerin, sometimes lavender oil, sometimes protein, panthenol.....

I've had very few successful first day hair, so I'm not sure why I'm reading about second day hair LOL, but doesn't spritzing create frizz by upping the dew points right on your hair?! Like stepping out in misty weather? I'm still learning, so forgive me for asking dumb theoretical questions!

I like to use this on the daily:

In my spray bottle

distilled water
30 drops tea tree oil (helps my scalp eczema)
20 drops rosemary
2 tbsp almond oil
Shake well!
(the rosemary mixed w/tea tree makes a eucalyptus-y scent...better than the medicinal tea tree, IMO)

No, not usually. It reactivates the product from the first day - mist, scrunch, let completely dry, then SOTC as you did on day 1.

Besides reactivating existing product, my aloe and some of these other additives others are using also help prevent frizz.

Please look for my post in the thread "What can I make with these ingredients...?". The basic recipe I posted there was a "tried and true" one for the cooler months for many years.

I use 10:1 water & condish. I use it on top for frizz one days that I don't wash. Sometimes I spray it into my hand and smooth it in, and sometimes I mist it directly into my hair. I want to try one of the aloe vera juice concoctions you ladies have posted, other than second day hair what would you recommend them for?

Some people use a leave in conditioner for second day hair. I make a refresher spray, Lavender Water. lavender essential oil in hair care are many, it can help to disinfect your scalp and skin and it can be very effective on lice and lice eggs or nits. In addition, the scent of lavender has been shown to help reduce headaches, depression, anxiety and emotional stress.
Recipe:
you combine
1 cup purified water
1/2 tablespoon curly friendly conditioner or coconut oil
1-2 drops lavender essential oil.
Combine in an 8 oz. spray bottle. Spray lighly on hair to refresh. Shake well before each use.
Contraindiciations: low blood pressure, pregnancy prior to second trimester.

I just made one that seems to be working pretty well...very similar to a lot of others here...

5-6 oz distilled/purified water
5-6 drops each - Rosemary, Tea Trea, Lavendar, and Lime EO's
2 pumps FOTE AVG

I meant to add a pinch of mag sulfate, but I forgot
