Question Magnesium Oil in FSG--very strange results?

Hi All,

I used about 1/2 tsp of Magnesium oil in my FSG this time. It is causing a very strange result I've never had before. My hair is very stringy (and really it is *stringy*) and it feels "cold" and looks wet. It does not FEEL oily but it looks ike I have a lot of product in and if I scrunch I find my hair literally cold and a little moist as if I just walked out of a freezer or something. It is VERY curly--even though it's stringy.

It doesn't look terrible, surprisingly enough. But it's not a look I'd cultivate again. I'm wondering if I should add more gel to my existing to try and even it out or if its best to just chuck this as an experiment and make some more tonight.

It's very strange

Ingredients in FSG:

1/2 c flax seeds
2 c. water
1/4 tsp Avocado Oil
1 tsp honeyquat
1/4 tsp mag sulfate
1 tsp. AVG

Everything else I've used before and loved..unless it is the combo?

Where did you get the idea to use magnesium oil? I don't think I've ever seen or heard of it being used in a hair product. It's not the same as magnesium sulfate, is it?

I use it. I know I originally read about it on one of the threads. It's chemical name is magnesium chloride. I find it much less drying than magnesium sulfate. I add it at that proportion.

I've probably given my FSG to about 20 people and this is the first time I've heard of and issue. I would either not use it, or use a little less. I frequently "dilute" 4 oz of my personal FSG with 2 oz of SeaMollient.

I know it's really really weird! Baffling really! It seriously did not really look oily--just very producty and very strangely stringy!

I'm going to add some seamollient and I'll do another batch of FSG and then add it (without any other oils) to this one and see. I wonder if it might be some combo that I'm not aware of--or some ingredient in something else that caused it?

I'll post again when i've kind of reformulated and see how it goes. Maybe it was like a one hit wonder thing..hmm

Other then EOs, I don't put any oil in my FSG in the Summer. Last Spring, I used the TheraNeem Leaf and Oil Lotion--and it was nice.

TheraNeem Leaf & Oil Lotion: Aqueous extract of Certified Organic Neem Leaf, Sunflower Oil, Aloe Vera, Glycerin, Jojoba Oil, Neem Oil, Shea Butter, Soya Bean Oil, Phenoxyethanol and Caprylyl Glycol, Vitamin E, Grapefruit Fragrance from Natural Ingredients, Sodium Acrylates Copolymer.

I also only use 1/4 t of the magnesium oil in the 4 oz of FSG/2 oz SeaMollient. Maybe 1/2 t was too much--misread it the second time, you only used 1/4 t.

Hi FSGers: I too, tried for the first time ,the mag.oil, instead of mag sulfate, and added seamollient for the first timeMy hair sounds a lot like alexjoujou. and the longer it gets, the looser my spirals are getting(BSL)I used: 4 C water, 1cup flaxseeds, 1 tablespoon honey, 1 tsp FOTE, 2 tablespoons seamollient, 2 tspoons amgnesium oil(I can usually tolerate more mag. sulfate than most.(in this amount, would use1 tsp.My hair is kind of limpy, not dried out,but not as much curl, as with mag. sulfate.Ive hated it, when I added castor oil, eeeeh!, when I added hemp oil. When I feel the magnesium/brine oil, though alexjou, it feels producty, kinda cold.Any suggestions,KathyMac????Make more straight FSG, and addto it? oh boy, when will I learn to make smaller batches. I think my friends, with 3B, or thicker hair, would probably love this.I end up giving away a lot!

I add additions after FSG is cooked and strained. I use much more SeaMollient--2oz to 4oz of FSG.

I added another 2 C.- H20, to 1/2 C.- flaxseeds(golden).mixed in w/ previous batch ( I also add 1/2 tsp citric acid, 1tsp colloidial silver, 12 drops young living E.O :.theives(antimicrobial properties) as preservatives. It lasted me 2 mo.s, withmaybe 1/2 the time in the fridge.Wow I love it. More curly, than my old batches, no drying out.But it did feel a litle cold, almost wet, when it was dry, before I scrunched it.Looks like its trying to rain, though, and I was paddling out in the bay, watching Crosby, Stills, &Nash behind Humphreys at the Bay(San Diego) Came home with the best hair. ever. Now I'm going to try to cut it in a seperate bottle with a little more seamollient. Im also loving FOTE on dry hair, lately when curls start to lag, or frizz, totally winds them back up,with shine, and great form.saved again by N.C. girls, thanks.

As with anything, I think you need to find out what's right for you.

I tried my previously mentioned FSG/w/ magnesium oil(brine), again, with more of the straight FSG, added,to dilute the amount of magn. added, dried so hard, and stringy, stringy, practicallly unscrunchable, until I scrunched loads of FOTE into it. Im chucking it, back to basics. uh-em, did you say honeyquat??,I'm going back to small amount of epsom salts.
