I am so glad that the deodorant is working out so well. Thanks for posting the additional recipes.
I have not had any problem with white residue on my clothes. I am very careful when I put my clothes on if my put my deodorant on first. It works just like any other deodorant and will get on your clothes if you rub against your underarm. If you rub it in, you won't have that problem at all. And since all of the ingredients are things you could eat, I think it's ok to rub it in.

I really want to try this, but I can't get past the Tea Tree Oil scent. I just don't like it. Is there something that I could substitute for Tea Tree?

you could just try it with the lavendar - that has anti-bac properties too or reduce the 6 drops of tea-tree and compensate with the likes of lavendar

I dont like the smell of tea tree either. I use other scents in mine, and I make my husband's batch without any fragrance at all. This recipe works just fine without the tea tree and lavender EOs.

Thanks ladies! I used the basic recipe posted by mochamoments using Jojoba oil. I followed your advice curlyhairmichuk and used lavender eo only. It has worked well and held up for the day.
Ceri, I'm glad to hear that you use other scents. I'm going to try that too.

Right, just baking soda alone can be used as a deodorant, so really anything else is extra. The olive oil works as a moisturizer and the cornstarch helps thicken it and make it smooth. The tea tree oil works as an anti-bacterial and is best for those with a strong body odor.

deodorant
Thanks so much for this receipe, Mochamoments! I just used minute amounts for an experiment and it worked overnight and into the day! I get night sweats so it passed the ultimate test!. BTW, since I didn't have any tea tree handy, I used vodka and basil eo, since it has some antibacterial properties. This is a welcome and inexpensive change.

You're welcome!! I am just learning about vodka and it's cleansing properties. I think someone told me it cleans toilets well. I don't drink so I don't have any experience with it.

i'm trying this recipe this weekend. i am so frustrated with deodorants right now. i'm allergic to the aluminum in regular deodorant, and even the natural ones i've tried make me itch. thank you so much for posting this!

MOCHAMOMENTS, THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR THIS RECIPE !!!
I've been using it since my first post on this thread three weeks ago, and it is fantastic. I've already made two batches and it definitely works !!!
No smell, and it keeps me dry almost all the time.
I had been looking for a natural deodorant on and off for ages.
If you haven't tried this yet, start today. It's so simple to make and so effective.
Again, thank you so much mochamoments for sharing this.

I made this for my daughter who has struggled with smelly armpits. This natural concoction works great! I made a modified version for myself and my husband. I like that its easy to make, all natural, and effective. For a larger batch I used a combination of coconut oil, olive oil, shea butter, and cocoa butter, along with the cornstarch and baking soda. The consistency is more of a paste, and it absorbs into the skin nicely. Thanks to the OP for sharing her recipe!

One Tb of each of the oils/butters, 4 Tb each of baking soda and cornstarch. I used a few drops of tea tree oil and a skin safe fragrance oil to scent.

I recently heard that lemon juice is also good for under the arms...though I'd imagine it'd be a little sticky.

last year I made my own deodorant using similar ingredients. lemongrass works well if you don't like the tea tree oil. i based mine off of the link below
http://angrychicken.typepad.com/angr...de-deodor.html
here is the recipe
3 Tablespoons shea butter
3 Tablespoons baking soda
2 Tablespoons corn starch
2 Tablespoons cocoa butter
2 vitamin E oil gel caps (puncture and squeeze out the oil)
Essential Oil (I used ylang yang and orange)
I melted all the ingredients (except the oils) and gave it a good stir. This only took about 30 seconds in the microwave. Then added the oils, stirred again, and poured it in a jar, then placed it in the fridge to set. This recipe filled the jar in my hand, which is a 1/4 pint.
I really like the lemongrass scent. It is also supposed to be a natural antiperspirant and it also is a natural insect repellent. go figure.

Just made a batch of this and tried it out. So far, so good! I actually love the smell of tea tree, so I think this is going to be a winner. Thanks for sharing!

I just made a similar recipe last week, after spontaneously developing a reaction to the stuff I'd been using, and then to the formerly-awesome Toms of Maine stuff I used to use without issue in high school.
Mine is just
2TB corn starch
1 TB baking soda
1 TB olive oil
1/2 TB jojoba oil
5 drops Frankincense EO
In case the problem comes up for anyone else: baking soda can be irritating, and my supersensitive (apparently) armpits became instantly burny with a 1:1 ratio of corn starch to baking soda. Taking that ratio down to 1: 1/2, and smearing on a thin layer of shea butter prior to deodorant application has helped massively (still a little irritating, so I'll probably play with proportions/ingredients a little more) AND it's still every bit as perfectly effective.
So, in case anyone else develops burny armpits, know that all is not lost, and the basic recipe can be tweaked pretty substantially without diminishing effectiveness.
