my armpits still became itchy when i first used this recipe, but now i put on a layer of coconut oil first, and for the most part it works. occasionally i still get itchy, though.

i think next time i make it, i'll increase the oil content. i used coconut oil to make my first batch, but next time i'll use olive oil. i may try CurlyToast's suggestion of increasing the cornstarch as well.

Question What am I doing wrong??

I want to like this recipe, but instead of staying on my pits, the mixture crumbles everywhere, gets on my shirt, etc. Am I doing something wrong?

Here's the recipe I used. It was the one in the first post, and I slightly modified it:
1 TBS cornstarch
1 TBS baking soda
1.5 TBS jojoba oil (instead of 1 TBS olive oil)
6 drops tea tree oil
6 drops essential oil: sweet orange
I also added 1TBS coconut oil because the mixture was sooo thick still.

I got this to a cake icing consistency, and took a daub for each armpit. I let it dry and then dressed, but as soon as it dried, it crumbled off my pits and what didn't crumble just clumped up in my pits. Anyone else experience this and are there any solutions?
TIA!

the active ingredient is the baking soda. there are loads of stuff, with whom the soda can be mixed for non-crumbling application:
- conditioner
- bodylotion
- any sort of oil (i guess, i didnīt try this)
- shea butter
- water (-->spray or on a wet dabber)
Just want to make certain:
Conditioner, body lotion, shea butter - None of these will clog your pores/sweat glands then?

Maybe you don't have enough liquid in it just add some more of your oil. I use the original recipe and just rub a small amount into each underarm. (Like I was using a cream/lotion) HTH

I tried your recipe and loved it! I was afraid I would end up smelling like the tea tree oil, but the smell dissipated quickly. Thanks, Mochamoments!

ETA: Oh, and I forgot to mention --I put a black shirt afterwards and no white marks!

donīt be afraid, just try it - conditioner, bodylotion, your favorite skin cream, whatever you like & you have at your fingertips.
Okay.. I'll give my CO a try since it's silicone & mineral oil free. I have to be careful because I get lumps on my armpits really easily.

I was thinking I maybe didn't have enough liquid, but at the time i didn't want it to getting so oily that it would have potential to oil-stain my shirts.

Back to the kitchen!!!

I tried your recipe and absolutely love it!! My daughter loves is too. I didn't even have any tea tree oil and am surprised at how well it works without it.

so here's my update with this deodorant:

i said before that it worked well, but it still made me itch a little, so i put on a little coconut oil before applying the deodorant. but i still itched sometimes. i tried adding a little more cornstarch and a little more oil. this time i tried jojoba oil with a tiny bit of olive oil. i don't know what happened, but that combo made my skin BURN LIKE #$*#!!! it was horrible. so i went back to making it with coconut oil and now i put on a layer of shea butter before applying it. this seems to be working very well. sometimes i feel like i'm sweating, but if i touch my armpit i don't feel any wetness. and it is as hot as the deepest pits of hell around here, so that's saying a lot. so overall, i'm really enjoying this recipe!

I mixed 2 Tbsp Cornstarch, 2 Tbsp Baking soda, and added coconut oil until the mixture thickened into a paste. I've been using this for a month and a half and I don't even have an odor problem anymore. The store deodorants seemed to make me smell worse than better.

Ok, I've tried adding body lotion and on a separate account i tried adding in CO...the body lotion was a nightmare. The bodylotion-deodorant mixture smeared into my blue top and dried on it. It got crumbly in my armpits too (and stung a little). The conditioner worked better, and i used less of the deodorant on my armpits, but, again, it got crumbly really easily. I'm going to try the conditioner again, and if that doesn't work, i'm gonna have to call it quits.

If you are getting clumps of deodorant everywhere, you're probably using too much. Only a little bit is needed. It works fine with olive oil and doesn't stain clothes if you use just the right amount.

I am going to try this! I so want to use natural deodorant. I found one I like last year or so but it doesn't seem to be working anymore!

I know my armpits like when I moisturize them. I add coconut oil to my whole body (even my pits) after almost every shower (unless I feel I dont need moisture). Perhaps the itch is from dryness? I know it's crazy, but have you tried giving them moisture? I know deodorant is a must, but perhaps try moisture when you have no where to be (example: right after your shower).
