quick cheap fish dish

This is my naked chef meets trinidad recipie:

Serves 2 really hungry people, or 4 moderately hungry people.


1/2 package boneless salted cod - soaked and shredded
1 tbs chopped garlic
1/2 onion - coarsely chopped
1 - 2 green onions - chopped
5 plum tomatoes - coarsly chopped
1 package of baby spinach
salt/pepper to taste
Juice of 1 lime
2 - 3 tbs of olive or veggie oil


on medium high heat, saute garlic and onion in oil until onions are soft, add cod and saute for 3 minutes. Then add lime juice and saute for another minute. reduce heat to medium or medium low. Add tomatoes, spinach and green onions. Cook until tomatoes are soft about another 3 - 5 minutes. Salt/pepper to taste.

If you have west indian lime peppersauce it goes very well with this dish.

serve with either white rice, roti or any bread.

This recipe sounds yummy webjockey!!

After you take salt cod and soak and shred it, have you ever eaten it just like that? It's one of my favorite things! Have it with some olive oil, sliced onion and a hunk of bread (gotta have my portuguese rolls!). I guess it's kind of like a codfish salad when you think about it. It's a favorite dish in my family.

totally! we call it bulgol, and it's a breakfast dish.

I use salt cod, onions (white & green) very ripe tomatoes, olive oil, and lemon juice. Fresh bread is a must! for a richer dish, add sliced avocado and hard boiled eggs on the side.

this was my first attempt at using it warm, as an entree and I was pleasently surprised.

Where do you get salted cod? At a fish market?

I thought perhaps since it was salted, perhaps it was a dry fish.
