CT/ MA/ RI

Hi! Can anyone recommend a good stylist in the above areas?
I have been to the workshop in New Haven - not impressed .
Also, Jo Bruno - its okay but not loving in. They use the same products I've tried.
3b/C with nicer curls on the bottom!
Hair: naturally very dry and VERY porous
hair seems to be moody.
Does not seem to like oils
Does not like protein or too much?
Does not like rich products

So, I ask myself. What does it like? That is the question, and I'm on a mission.
I too am looking for a good "curl" stylist is CT too. If I find one I will let you if you would please do the same.
I've heard that Cala Renee in Beverly, MA is great. I plan on making an appointment. It may be a haul from CT, though.
2b/cFi, low density, normal porosity, high elasticity

Low-poo
: Trader Joe's Tea Tree Tingle
Conditioner
: Suave Naturals (whatever scent I have on hand)
Styling
: Paul Mitchell Round Trip, Tresemme Climate Control Finishing Spray

I'm a hair minimalist: the less time I spend on my hair, the better.

wow, that is a haul.
Though, Let me know how your appt turns out.

Good luck!

In North Providence RI is Dawn Periquito. I just had my 2nd appt with her and she is fantastic. I was there for FOUR hours. Deva cut, color, highlights... I got the works. We were there until 9pm and never once did it seem like she was restless or looking to leave or upset that the highlights were taking so long. (I have a lot of hair.) She even was potentially late for a party. (It ended up being the next night. A surprise birthday party.)

She went over my hair and we talked about other things I can do to help the curl. She was so knowledgable, oh, and she won the "Best of RI 2010". I can not say enough good things about her.

You can google her name and other reviews come up. She also comes up on this site in the "salon finder" section.
Thanks to my Live Curly Live Free Hair Analysis, I can confidently list my properties.

Hair Texture: Medium
Hair Porosity: Low (Not what I was expecting at all!)
Hair Elasticity: Normal

Well, I had my hair cut by Luvena at Jo Bruno in New Haven, CT this morning. I'm new to the whole Deva style of cutting, so it is hard to gauge my new cut. The layers are definitely uneven- is this normal for a Deva cut or did she have an off day?

i have never been to this salon, but i can speak for a deva cut. a true deva cut does not have layers per se. rather, they cut each curl individually. carlos flores, who cuts my hair, will alternate short and long pieces to give me volume. a deva cut is not a blunt cut nor is it layers. it is meant to bring out the curls. carlos told me that he views a head of hair like a bonsai plant, and cuts where it needs it.... there really is not predetermined cut, it depends on your hair. which is good for me as i while i am mostly 3a, i do have many 3b curls at my crown, and some 2b waves on the back bottom. so the way he cuts my hair makes everything flow together.

also, just because someone attended a class of a few hours on the deva method does not mean that person is good or bad at it. i personally think in addition to training, it is the stylist's talent and passion for hair that make a stylist great.

and for most of us curlies, our hair is very often better after we wash and style it ourselves. hoping you are loving your hair today!

Hi!!
I've seen Luvena. The first time she cut my hair, I thought the same thing.
First, I was new to Deva and was not sure how I would like it. My hair also turned out uneven, but no major difference. The second time, I went was this year, during the spring. My hair was uneven - I sometimes, have rollers done to sport the straighter look and my mom caught the uneveness. Not a good thing.
And based from what "RBB" mentioned. I wonder if it all depends on the hair.
During that visit, she wanted to add layers to my curls so they look more defined. I wasn't too sure, because my hair has major shrinkage sometimes, and layers, will just add a big puff, if you know what I mean.

Deva products no longer work on my hair. They did when I first started using them, last year. I later learned Deva changed their formula, so no wonder it didn't have the same effect on my hair.

I guess I could bring my products but the problem is I haven't found a product that really has worked on detangling and moisturizing my hair.
Last night, I bought Yes to Carrots, and Giovanni. This morning, I washed it with both and so far, they were okay. I would have to try it again and on dry curly hair. ( my hair was straight)

How are you liking your cut? Did you enjoy your visit? How about the Deva products?

This was my third time there, and I am curious about what others still think from this thread. Well, now that I went back to this thread I wonder if I got my self into something... I got the worst hair cut and now I don't even know what to do with my curls, besides buns and adding clip on extensions. After reading the above, my cut was so uneven , the worst from the last two cuts. This time, supposedly there were layers but instead it looks like a big chop below the shoulders and one below it. It's so uneven I have long hair stringing in different places. I personally, after this bad cut, would not consider a d e va cut again. It has left me really depressed. I loved my curls and now, I just feel blah.
