I am in desperate need of a good curly (3a) hair stylist. My last stylist cut my hair like a mohawk with long hair in front and back and cut the curl off on the sides. I am looking for basically what I call Hobbit hair -- just short and naturally curly all over. I looked in the salon finder but I'm finding that the listings that are the highest rated are no longer there. Anybody have any recent suggestions? Please advise. I can't go back to that stylist!! Help!!!

There is a salon in Laguna Beach called Curls on Top, owner is Vickie. She gives a good cut but is $$$. Check out her web site and reviews in the salon finder section. She also is on facebook as well. Good luck. I think that finding someone new for your hair is as tough as a recommendation for a GYN.

Like ocwavy said, Vickie at Curls on Top is great! I went to her the first time two months ago, and she gave me one of the best haircuts I've ever had. The downside, as ocwavy mentioned, tough, is that she is pretty pricey, but with the Devacuts you only need to go in for a cut every four months if you're growing it out.

Thank you so much! I think finding a GYN is easier than finding someone to cut curly hair. Thanks a million times!!

Anything has to be better than an uncurly mohawk! Thanks again.

Just out of curiosity how much is $$$? Not that it matters -- I paid $75 for this mohawk.

I think she's either $120 or 130 for shoulder-length hair, and a bit less if your hair is shorter. So, yes, her cuts are definitely pricey! If you don't mind a drive, ocwavy mentioned a San Diego stylist (Jennifer) in the San Diego thread who gives as good of a cut as Vickie does, for about 1/3 of the price. I think I'm going to try Jennifer for my next cut just to save a bit. :-)

If you are willing to drive, I recommend Leo at the Loft Studio in Sherman Oaks. She is amazing. Her cuts are $80.00. She works on all types of curly hair.

Leanne - please do report back after you've tried Jennifer. I currently go to Vickie, but would love to find a good stylist that is not so expensive.
