Have any of you been to the Aveda Institute before? There's a new one close to my house. I'm trying to grow up a bad (Deva) cut and just wanted to trim my ends to "even out" my hair.

I made the appointment and they put me with one of the students. He did exactly what I wanted him to do (cut 1/2 inch only) and then, at my request, he blow dry my hair straight.

I got shampoo, conditioner, cut, blowdry and flat iron for just $12!! They use Aveda products for washing, conditioning and styling. Also, the students are supervised by professional hairdressers, so they will not do anything crazy to your hair.

I don't really know if they do dry cuts, I did't ask. Just think that for some of us who prefer wet normal cuts, this is a great alternative. I ended up giving the same amount ($12) as a tip to the student and still, for all those services, it was CHEAP!

The original is in my town and I used to go there for services when I was in college. We all went there to get our up-do's for my sister's wedding.

I honestly never had a bad experiene, but the last time I went was I believe in 1992, so I can't really vouch for it today. But because of the way the students are supervised, I do think it's a good way to get salon-level care without breaking the bank.

Yes. And they take the time to do things slowly. No rush to get you out of there.

I'll try mani and pedi next time. It's also unexpensive, but you have to call in advance as they're always booked.

I love this place! There is one in Philly and I go there sometimes when I want my hair blown straight.

I go to the one in Ft. Lauderdale and I love it too! I have been several times for hair color and they have done a really good job for a good price, using all the Avenda products. The only thing is that you have to allow for time, when you make the appointment, make sure you ask how long it will take.
