Devacut: Yay or Nay? What say you?

So I was all excited a few months back when I went to natural to see that there was a salon geared for curlies and I said that once I'd reached my one year point I would go for a trim or shape . . and maybe some color.

Now that I've saved up, I've been doing more research on certain stylists, the Devacut itself, and I'm not even sure if I want to go through with it anymore. People have had some AMAZING experiences with both cut and color and others (its seems like more ) have had terrible experiences with their hair being cut terribly, color looking racoonish, etc.

There was one stylist (Ana) I wanted to see if I could book an appointment with, but I last heard that she was taking 5 months off. I'm not sure if she's back at Deva at all. She has the closet hair type to me and I don't know for some reason I feel like she would better understand and listen to the exact things I do and don't want for my hair since she has a similar type (I'm a 3b, 3c, 4a)

Anyone in NY area go to Devachan on Broome Street or on Broadway? Anyone you recommend? Help, please.

( yes, I posted this in GD)

I went to the Broome Street Devachan on Saturday for the first time and got a trim from Keith. I had some splits and frayed ends from avoiding a proper trim in more than a year, so I basically wanted him to clean up my ends. He took off VERY LITTLE as far as length goes, but I definitely feel a difference in my hair. It's much easier to detangle with those splits gone.

I was then washed, conditioned, and styled with No Poo, One Condition + Heaven in Hair (she finger-combed a combo of the two to condition, detangle, and style my hair). Then I was guided back to the stylist chair where Keith had me flip my head upside down, while he scrunched in Set Up And Above. He then added some clips to my crown for volume and put me under the dryer. After diffusing the back of my hair for about 5 minutes, the clips were removed and I was done!

I've never conditioner-styled my hair before. Like, I was always turned off by the tightlycurly/Terri method because I imagined the hair would be sticky and full of gross conditioner residue when it dried. So you can just imagine how surprised I was by how soft and touchable, yet defined and elongated my curls were.

I didn't purchase any of the products (because I felt like I had spent enough money that day lol) but I'm really considering buying them.

I've read a few reviews about Keith, some good and some bad.

I'm also glad to read that your overall experience was a good one. I want a trim . . but one side of my hair hangs lower than the other because that side of my hair has looser curls, so I was thinking that a new shape would be nice. Idk . ..

Thanks for the feedback though.

I tried a deva cut twice. Once about 3 1/2 years ago and then again about a month ago. Both were with stylist who have very positive reviews on this site and both were experienced with deva, etc.
The first time I didn't like it at all and ended up having to get it cut (wet) somewhere else a few weeks afterwards just to get some sort of shape back.
I decided to try again recently thinking it would be better with a different stylist. Unfortunately, it was not a good experience at all for me! The stylist was very nice, and has wonderful reviews, but it just doesn't seem to be a good cut for my hair for some reason. I won't be trying a dry cut again, although I have no idea what to do or where to go next time I need a cut.
I have seen rave reviews and wonderful "after" pics of deva cuts, which is what inspired me to try again, but my hair didn't turn out anything like those.
I've struggled with it since my last cut and am not at all happy with it.
I hope whatever you decide works out great for you!
I hope it works out too. Thanks.
