Default My 3rd visit to A. Dickey of Hair Rules Salon

I seem to have found my HG stylist after trying a zillion others in NYC incl. Deva. I returned to A. Dickey at Hair Rules for my 3rd cut. I had done my hair in a roller set using conventional mesh rollers and to my surprise he wanted to try using steam rollers instead of doing it curly. He said he was inspired by how my hair looked after a roller set.

One of the good things about Dickey is that he isn't wedded to a particular style - curly, straight, whatever. I told him I had tried the Caruso steam rollers before and it was disastrous, but he said he had a trick so I said go ahead instead of styling it curly which he has done successfully in the past.

OK, the trick is to dry shake the water out of the steam roller so that there isn't extra moisture and wipe the shield (also steamed) with a towel before putting it on the roller. It is all done very swiftly so that the curler and shield are still hot but no visible moisture. This is a very gentle way of styling hair, much less heat/damage than conventional rollers. (First my hair was straightened with a blow dryer but using very little heat.)

I liked the result a lot and went out to buy a Caruso set because I want to be gentle to my hair and in winter I can't bother with curls because it takes too long for them to dry and I need to re-wet every day. The roller sets last several days. If I didn't use Rogaine a roller set would last a week, but the Rogaine makes my hair oily so I need to poo more frequently.

If you use Caruso rollers, do you need to blow dry first? Interested to hear anyone else's experience with the Caruso rollers! Please chime in!
2/c and some 3A. Modified CG.
Highly porous. Color over grey.
Best 1st day method: Super Soaker
Conditioners: Curl Junkie Beauticurls Strengthening Conditioner,
Deep condish: Curl Junkie Curl Rehab
Stylers: Experimenting with cones & sulfates while the dews are high. Sometimes try roller sets - classic glamor but I prefer my curls.
Every day is a gift
