Dickey cut my hair for the 4th time today. I don't think I have been that loyal to anyone else in years. One of the things he does right is that he doesn't cut off too much. Also gives me perfect layers.

I continue to be very pleased with his haircuts and will see what happens now that we are heading into high dew season.

It's interesting in the salon because there is every type of hair and curls there from 1 to 4 and great variety in what people want. Some want flat irons, some want purple streaks, some want roller sets, some want pincurls, some want naturally curly, etc. This is definitely not one size fits all. I smile to myself and think: we are all sisters underneath the curls.

2/c and some 3A. Modified CG.
Protein sensitive
Highly porous. Color over grey.
Best 1st day method: Super Soaker
Conditioners: Curl Junkie Beauticurls Strengthening Conditioner,
Deep condish: Curl Junkie Curl Rehab
Stylers: Mix Curls in a Bottle into everything for shine. Terrible pj
Sometimes try roller sets - classic glamor but I prefer my curls.
Every day is a gift
curlypearl, can you describe your haircut? length? long layers? lots of layers? how is the front?
i'm going for a haircut sat (with carlos) and am thinking of changing, getting much shorter 'pieces' as my hair loves to snarl into one curl and be flat. if i break up these snarls when my hair is wet, it doesn't sit right. it wants to do it's own thing. then i break up the snarl/curls when dry, but....

It's so great that you have a stylist who you are happy with!

In the UK, we are still trying to persuade stylists to take a step outside their comfort zone and embrace curly hair! It may take a while! It would be so cool if some of the experienced US curl experts could spread the love about curly hair overseas. I wonder if any of them have done articles/interviews etc in their professional trade mags? Maybe you could ask Dickey if he has or would consider? Course, the trade mags would need to be international! Am v frustrated that it is taking so long for the UK to get stylists to get with the curls!! We have a few stylists/salons in the UK who are now offering a curl specific service (thanks to the curly customers who have offered themselves up for practice and talked to these stylists at length about the CG philosophy etc) but we are so far off having real choice about where we go to have our hair cut/styled/coloured.

Hi Crystal Tips, the next time I see Dickey I will mention your suggestion to him and get back to you!

Hi Rbb, My hair is about an inch above shoulder length which is longer than it's been for a long time, because other stylists usually cut off more than I wanted.

Dickey cut my hair when it is wet. I don't know if he does dry cuts in case that is an issue for you. I believe his products are c.g.

First, each time I saw him he sat me in his chair and looked at my face shape and hair. My face is kind of long, so although I need some height on top, I really need volume on the sides for width. Other stylists always wanted to do a "modern" bob on me which is shorter in the back and angles longer in the front. Yes, it is modern, but it doesn't suit me because it ends up making my long face look longer.

Dickey saw this and commented that he would change the bob so that it is the more classic look which is shorter in the front and angles longer towards the back. The result is much better for my shape face. He said volume at the sides would be attractive on me, which I agree with.

I don't have bangs, or anything in the front. Just classic bob with perfect layers.

One other nc.com regular went for a consult with him but wasn't altogether comfortable, so I guess it's a very individual thing. I think the consultation is free, in case you want to try that.

cp, thanks! i just wanted to know how you are wearing your hair. i am very happy with carlos, he and i work well together. it sounds like our styles are similar. it's how i mostly wore mine, but recently switched that the back is the same length as the sides, i do have some side-swept pieces in front, and it is a little shorter now, a little below chin length.
i decided to wait til my usual haircut, which is at 4 month intervals, and just keep working with products. may is a tricky month, dew points are sometimes in mid range, then dip to low dew points. but i am happy with this style.
