Salon in Chicago area?

I live in Joliet but would be willing to drive a bit for a good CG stylist. I don't know if my current stylist is up for the challange - she is studying to be a nurse so I don't think hair is her first priority.
I live west of Chicago and would be willing to travel a little for a curly hair specialist, but I guess no one knows anyone...what a bummer. I will keep checking this link. Thanks for posting it.
My in-laws live in Sugar Grove, so I did some digging before my last visit. Nelson and Tim at Karma Salon in Westmont were listed on Devachan's website as Deva-trained. Their phone number is (630) 968-5874.

Also, I found a good review for Stacie Green at Mane Cutters in Highland Park. Their phone number is (847)432-3969.

I didn't get a chance to try either salon, but please let us know if you do.

Thank you so much, I am really interested in the Deva Specialist. I will not be getting my hair cut for a while, but will provide feedback when I do. Thanks again, it is appreciated.

Lolodsm, where did you find this list of deva trained specialist. I looked on the deva website and could not find it. I am not too good with finding things on the internet. I already called the salon and will be making an appointment next month. Thanks so much.

Which salon are you going to? And which stylist are you seeing? I am so excited for you! Please let me know how it turns out.

Go here to find a Deva stylist:

Please post pictures & info if you go to one of these salons! I live in Detroit and there's no one trained nearby, but I could certainly make a weekend trip to Chicago for a haircut!

I have an appointment with Stacie Green in Highland Park, IL on May 22. When I spoke with her she sounded wonderful. I will report when I get it done, I will try to post pictures, however I am not very good at it. Thanks again for the help!
Thank you hauptaj for that link! I have an appointment with Heather at Salon Rhapsody in Frankfort next Tuesday. I will let you all know how it went. I'm so excited
I have a great stylist in Chicago to recommend. Her name is Kennedy, and she co-owns the "B Spoiled Salon" at 2631 N Halsted. Their number is 773-750-7883. (Before opening this salon she worked at Mario Tricoci).

My hair type is 2B/3A. I got tired of constantly straightening it, and wanted to go curly but disliked my huge pyramid-shaped hair that was also flat on top and curly underneath. Kennedy cut it wet using a method called "texturizing" to take out the extra weight and allow the curls to lay better. She then blow dried it straight and cut it some more while dry so that I could have a style that works either curly or straight. Volia - fabulous hair!

I've had the same cut now for the past few years and really like it. I moved to DC but go back to Kennedy whenever I'm in Chicago. Recently, I went to a Deva-trained stylist in DC to get my hair cut and she said that Kennedy's cut was really superb and that I only needed a trim.

The only drawback is that Kennedy doesn't have any specialized curly hair products in her salon, so I always have her blow dry my hair straight and then apply my own products and air dry after my next shampoo to see whether I'm happy with the cut. To date, I've never been disappointed. I'll have to take a picture of my hair and post it so you can see for yourself...

BTW, in terms of products, I use either Ouidad botanical boost+climate control or Giovanni leave-in+Innersense QCCC and then air-dry.

I used to go to Mary at Salon Blue, also on Halsted Street. She has curly hair herself, and never straightened it, as far as I know.

I will say it's been a while since I went there, though, due to relocating to Ohio.

Good luck!
I used to go to Callie at Toujours up on Broadway near Foster for about a year and then I ended up moving to the Lakeview area. Callie practices the Devachan method and for the most part she was great.

I started going to another stylist and Lakeview for the past year and it just ended up not working out.

This past Tuesday after reading some reviews I went and checked out Aimee at Sine Qua Non on Lincoln and Diversey and she was awesome! My hair actually looks cute and sexy and I have tendrils now instead of this massive nappy puff that I have had for the past year.

How did she want you to have your hair when you went in (i.e., just washed, no product?)

You say "for the most part" which makes me think she wasn't always great?

TIA

Actually she didn't ask me to go in with my hair in any particular way. She would cut it dry or at least she cut my hair dry. She said it depended on the persons hair texture on whether she cut their hair wet or dry. When I first started going to her is when I actually went CG so she was a godsend. My first haircut with her I was amazed. I actually felt like one of those topiaries. She just kind of snipped and shaped and I thought there was no way my hair was going to come out looking any other than jacked up but I was so wrong. It looked the best it had looked....ever I think. I went to her for a year but after moving from Edgewater to Lakeview I felt it was time for a change. I think I mainly got tired of my cut and after the last few times of going and trying to get a different style and coming out looking almost exactly the same I decided it was time to move on.

I would say to definitely check her out. One thing to make sure to do is when she asks you on how you feel about the cut so far to don't be afraid to pop up and give your honest opinion. Too bulky on the sides, need more poof in back, etc. etc.

Right before I moved she had actually taken another class at Devachan so I'm sure she has picked up some extra cutting tips.

Hope this helps!
