So sorry for the double post everyone, but I just saw this post on clipping in the general forum and was wondering if that's what you were describing upthread about how MaryAnn clipped you, JodyGK. Are you still around?

Thank you, CurlyBel! What a strange thing for her to have said about the Deva products.
Looks like I'll be trying Jen at E Factor then! (Which is a bummer b/c Bellegance is way closer to my house.)

Hi Koukla -- yes, this sounds very much like what MaryAnn did to create lift for me the first time I went to her. I've yet to be able to duplicate this method at home unfortunately. Between my arthritis and my basic styling ineptitude, I have less trouble just clipping close to the root. I'll be making my next appointment with her in the next couple weeks, so hopefully she can give me "clipping for dummies" lessons then.
And TwistedChick, if indeed you are who PMed MaryAnn's info to Koukla, thank you too! I'm in San Marcos, so her salon is very convenient for me!

Heya guys, I'm Jessica and I am new to this site. I had a traumatic experience with my hair about 2 weeks ago...bad color job and bad cut, so now my once beautiful curls are just ...BLAH!
So from reading this thread I made a call to Jen and E-Factor for the 19th. I'll take some pics and keep you all posted.
please send me any good hair vibes you may have!

Sending you good Hair Vibes!
I have an appt. with her on Oct. 16th! Please post your pics so that I can see before my appt. I will also post pics. My last Deva Cut was with Suzanne at Re:Vive and I loved that cut (just not the price). So, I can't wait to compare!
GOOD LUCK!!!!

I will definitely post some pics before and after the cut. Since that's when I'll be OFFICIALLY going all out CG.

I leave to go back to Japan from my vacation here in Oct. so .....just in case..... I made my appt for the 19th of this month (sept) so I'd have time to MAKE sure my hair gets taken care of before I become a Hermit again in Japan.

London Calling Jody Snyder
Jody is the best the best stylist I've ever been to. As the saying goes "everyone has an opinion" but Koukla has the wrong info! Jody knows the clients hair and does a great job!!! Go to to her and you'll be amazed!!!

Tamara Mooney at Tasha's Beauty Salon. Amazing color, haircuts and styles. I've been one of her clients for years. I'm so glad that I found her through this website!
Here's an interview with Tamara: http://www.naturallycurly.com/curl-s...defy-tradition

Well as most of you know I had what I thought was very nice curly hair and then decided to get a color and cut and the lady ended up razor cutting my nice curls. I didn't know then that that was a BIG NO NO. Since then I have become CG and found this website.
I went yesterday to get my first DevaCut to fix the "Hackjob" I got from the razoring.
I went to Jennifer Sparano, here in San Diego. She was So nice and very informative and she did a great job of getting the yucky ends out without having to shave my head! and.... it only cost me FIFTY DOLLARS!!!!!!!! I would definitely recommend her to everyone!!!
pics are in my Fotki!

Hi JWalk:
I can't wait to see the pictures, but it tells me that the password is expired?
What's the password to get into your Fotki?
Thanks!

OMG! Your hair looks AMAZING Jenn did a great job. Did she do your color as well? It just looks so shiny! I'm glad I have my appt. with her soon. Now I really can't wait. From looking at your first pics, I would say you are a 3B, is that what you consider yourself too?
Hooray for you! Now I can't wait for Oct. 16th!
Congratulations!

CurlyBel,
I WAS 3b and right now I think I am more about 2b-ish, my hair tends to get curlier and more "ringletty" as it gets longer too. I got some Deva products when i went to see Jennifer so I'm gonna see how I do using those. I only got the smaller bottles and not the huge, jumbo ones.
Jen was great and she'll talk you through everything. I know she does do color also, she even mentioned that she does the "pintura" method of coloring/highlighting. If you want to get color from her I would suggest calling and letting her know so she could either reschedule you or have you come in earlier because she did mention to me that she likes to do the coloring BEFORE she does the cutting.
I had gone somewhere else for the color, as a matter of fact, the person who colored my hair was the same person who RAZOR cut my hair. I love the color but the razor cutting is what made me have to go a lot shorter than I wanted to.

Jody Snyder: - was over 20 minutes late showing up for our appointment first thing in the morning. UNPROFESSIONAL
- claimed to have curly hair over the phone, but was wearing it stick straight when she finally did show up, claiming she rushed right over after having overslept. So she either took the time to straighten even though I was waiting, or - my guess - she's a liar about having curly hair. UNPROFESSIONAL OR UNETHICAL
- complained about problems she was having with her ex husband and son during the entire time. UNPROFESSIONAL
- didn't want to use the products I'd brought in, saying hers were better and calling Biolage (mine) "gel for dummies" RUDE
- used conditioner containing silicone, and styling products containing silicone even though I told her I don't do that, and told her not to use products with those ingredients. UNETHICAL
- pushed those same horrible products throughout, though I had told her I was satisfied with my own and wasn't interested in buying from her. ANNOYING
- tried to roughly towel dry my hair - with a terry cloth towel - causing frizz. INCOMPETENT
- started to blow-dry my hair and when I reminded her I had told her over th phone she'd need to diffuse, she revealed she didn't own a diffuser. She had to ask two of the other stylists if they had one she could borrow, and then didn't even know how to put it on her dryer - I had to do it for her. This from a self-professed "curly hair expert". INCOMPETENT
- left the left side of my hair over an inch longer than the right side, and very badly stair-stepped and chopped the rear layers. The shortest "layer" was three curls that were barely three inches long at the crown, when I'd told her to do gentle long layers and nothing shorter than chin length. INCOMPETENT
- gave me greenish color when it was supposed to be dark neutral blonde - I had to pay extra someplace else to get corrective color to fix what she'd done. INCOMPETENT
If this @#$%& really is the best stylist you've ever been to, you have astonishingly low standards. Even the most generous assessment anyone else in this thread has managed to give her is lukewarm at best. My information is not wrong. You know how I know that? Because it's my information.
But thanks for making my point for me about fake CurlSalons reviews and posters with a different kind of axe to grind so very well. Because you can't really think no one would have noticed that your review on the CurlSalons section had been one of the ones removed in the revamp (I remember your name, Marci, and your insubstantive yet gushing review style). Or that your first shill for Jody on the forums was posted in the forum feedback section because you didn't even take the time to look around the forum to know where to post it. Or that you then felt compelled to come back and post another review here yet again only a couple of weeks later - even though your topic had been since moved to the appropriate area. But no posts anywhere else on the site, and your public profile showed you had no activity on the forums except on those two dates. Profile created on the day of the first post, no activity between posts, and no activity since this second post - not even lurking. (Yeah - I checked.) Hmmmmm. I wonder why that is?
If there are others who truly had good experiences with Jody Snyder, I'm relieved for them. I'll take their reviews on a case-by-case basis and consider the source, as I've done with the other comments here about her - even though I personally would rather set my hair on fire than let her touch it again. But as far as I'm concerned, your posts on the topic of Jody Snyder are fake and I'll take them with a big fat salt lick.
!!!!!!!!!!

Jwalk, your hair looks gorgeous! That's a big difference.
CurlyBel (or anyone), is that about how long it takes to get in to see Jennifer? Three to four-ish weeks - or is that just when you preferred your appointment to be? I'm not quite ready to get my hair cut but I think it should be sometime around Halloween - and before the subsequent winter-holiday craziness - and I was wondering how much time I should factor in before I call for an appointment.

Goodness! I've been away from the message boards for a bit and have missed out on the good reviews you all have been posting! I'm so excited to read about good SD hair experiences!!! Now, I just have to get the gumption to break up w/my very sweet friendly stylist of 7 years - can I just call it a "break"? - what if I want to go back....
who is it that says "(s)he's just not that into you(r curly hair)!"

Oh, that's a tough one. I had to deal with the same thing when I stopped seeing the stylist I'd been going to for several years because her level of service had really gone downhill, plus she was a straightening kind of girl so she didn't want to help when I went wavy. But I didn't want to hurt her feelings, just the same.
What I ended up doing was to use one of her service issues that had nothing to do with her skills, which was how hard it had become to get an appointment with her (instead of how she wasn't highlighting the back of my head like I was paying for ), and I turned it around on myself. I said there were some changes in my life recently and I just really needed more flexibility than that for a while when scheduling appointments. It was quite true, it just wasn't the whole - or main - truth.
Is there anything else that could be a valid reason that has nothing to do with her personally, that you'd feel comfortable using - like that you need something closer to work for convenience because you're working longer hours lately, or the economy is killing you and you need to "take a break" from her prices for a while, or something like that?

yep, the old "it's not you, it's me"
I could use the distance excuse. The thing is my DH goes to her, and even my girls will occasionally get their haircut with her too. Maybe I'll have DH tell her I'm trying somebody closer, have him do the dirty work!
