Northern New Jersey Salons

Help I need to find a great person to cut my 3A/B hair. I have tried Antonio's in Livingston and Oiudad in NYC with mixed results. Anyone in the Union/Essex/Morris area who really gives you a shape and style to your hair? How about Laboratory in Morristown or Zoo Crew in Long Valley. This site had good comments but I really want to be sure before I risk it again

Hi!

There's a thread by TooSense in this forum about a salon in Essex county that she seems to really like.
I'd link the thread but can't figure out how to do it.

I go to Eric at Laboratory in Morristown and absolutely love him. He's a genius with my hair. My sister goes to Valerie at laboratory and loves her.

Some more love for Eric at Laboratory.
I went to Antonio's too and wasn't very impressed. I hated the vibe in the salon too. I used to go to Tania at Fuse in Ransolph and was very happy with her. I switched because I needed a change.

It's actually still on this page, but here ya go:

My co-worker really liked Laboratory. She got a good cut and highlights.

I have a very good stylist in Bedminster, right where 287 crosses 78, but that's probably out of your area.

hi suzen--my girlfriend just moved to basking ridge who is your stylist? she is near there thanks
PS no trip to devachan yet?

Atelier, Basking Ridge

At the risk of giving away my secret....Atelier in Basking Ridge is awesome. They have their own line of great products called Ricci. I hated the attitude at Antonios, and can't travel into the city to see Ouidad anymore. I also tried the vanity room in Bedminster that does the Diva cut - but it was not for me (3b).

I know someone who has been going to Atelier for several years and gets very good Ouidad-type cuts there.

Banjo, my stylist is Tina at Club Beaute -- it's the salon next to Kings in the Hills shopping center. I found her through a review here. She is a curly herself, though I have only seen her hair straightened. She is very careful about discussing exactly what you want and will show you how much you've agreed to cut. She's the only stylist I've ever found who can style my hair better than I can.

I bring my own Deva Low-poo and conditioner, the salon is fine with that.

I too have been going to Atelier for years - I get my hair relaxed and do the Coppola keratin treatment and can't say enough good things about the salon and the people that work there!

For those of you who go to Atelier, who do you recommend?

It's not just me! I had my hair cut there once--and only once!--by one of the owners & he was a very nasty man. He wanted to do a Ouidad cut on me but I've had one before & it was horrible, so I told him I wanted Deva, & he argued w/me but I insisted. I mean, shouldn't he do what I want, not what HE wants? So he was pissed off & actually downright insulting at times throughout the entire cut.

I'll stick w/Kenya, or possibly go into Deva's Manhattan salon or, in the best of both worlds, convince Kenya to train at Deva's.

Some questions about Eric at Laboratory

Does Eric do a Deva style or Oiudad style cut? Does he shape to suit your face or just worries about the curls? That was the flaw I found with Ouidad, everyone leaves with the same style. Also what products does he use?

Thanks for the info

BB 08-07-2008 08:23 AM

Eric is Deva trained and he does suit the cut to your face. I can't recommend him enough.

But ... he changed his schedule and no longer works on Saturdays. So, I need to go to someone else. I'm giving Mark (the owner a try).

Sorry, I don't check this board often so I missed your post...(A year later :) )...

I go to Gina and I am very happy! Highly recommend!

JerseyBounce 05-20-2013 04:10 PM

Mark at the Laboratory gave me the best damned haircut of my life. The curly cut rocks. It was expensive, but worth it.

Blazianbeauty26 05-20-2013 04:41 PM

You should look up deva Cut. Do you kno what that is? I had my 1st time and I loved how she cut my hair and how she brought so much moisture in it!

JerseyBounce 05-21-2013 04:43 AM

No, I don't know what that is... What's the difference between a Deva cut and a curly cut?

I couldn't tell u how a curly cut works but here is a link about a deva cut!

I loved it and the best part is your also getting training on your particular hair and I pretty much changed my hair routine because of them! My hair has never been soft since I left that salon and I'm hooked on their deva products!
