No, not at all. He charged me $65 for the cut, but said it is $55 for people who come regularly. The curly cut is more...I think it is $105 or so. I believe he has prices on his website at valdeh.com.
The girl before me was VERY curly and had come in frustrated and wanting it cut off short. He convinced her to try a curly cut to reshape it first. She sounded really thrilled with her cut when she left.
HTH!

Has anyone used Chad at Clive and Co. recently? I'm moving 1000 miles away from my stylist, and he is in the neighborhood where I'll be working. I'm definitely looking for someone who cuts curly hair dry.

Reviving Thread
Wanting to see if anyone had any feedback on Salons in the North Dallas/Dallas area. I live in Frisco, but will pretty much go anywhere within a 40 mile radius.
Thanks everyone!

Naturally Curly Ennovy-
I have only been in this salon to purchase products. However, I've heard good things about The Styling Hutch in Plano. They specialize in curly hair. Here is the link to their site: http://www.stylinghutch.com/

Thank you! I checked out the website. Good thing I don't need a haircut right now....looks like it would cost $105. That's a bit pricey. I got a cut in April, but she cut in layers which definitely added volume and I don't need volume as I have a ton of hair. So I want to get it cut shorter to try and even out the layers as much as possible. We'll see. Thanks again!

I had a really pleasant experience with Anthony at Norwood and Co. in Arlington back in December. Very nice, talkative guy with lots of knowledge and skill. Actively promotes the no-poo/low-poo routine, so there's no worry there... and he did a great dry cut on myself and a damp cut on my sister (who's wavy) that REALLY brought out her curls.
The best part was the price though. $45 for a fantastic experience... i'll definitely do it again.

I go to Brian at Toni and Guy in Vista Ride Mall in Lewisville. He does dry cuts for me and skips the sulfates and 'cones if you want him to do so. It's $65 to see him and I've been going to him for haircuts for 8 years.

I am so glad to find this thread! I live close to the Styling Hutch and Frisco, so I will be looking forward to reading experiences. Would love it if someone would let me know the place/stylist in Frisco, too.
I've been with my current stylist for 20 years. I want to add some layers to my hair once it gets to APL. She knows my hair sooo well, but for some reason I'm nervous about having her cut some layers in (front especially).

I am seriously considering treating myself to a trim/shaping with a curly stylist in the North Dallas area before the end of the year. Does anyone have before/after pics they can share or point me to in their albums? Thanks.
SweetMystique, how did your cut with Valdeh go?

I go to a salon in Irving and she does a lot a curly hair. I have only gone there for straight cuts that have been great. The website is http://web.mac.com/sharlenabell/pure...The_Salon.html
Her name is Sharlena and there is another stylist that works there.

I think I'm going to try him. Although I have moved two hours east of Dallas area, I am going to my high school reunion in October and I'd really love to get a great haircut...

Just wondering if anyone has any updates on cuts/experiences they've had with Valdeh? I think I am going to call for real this time, but wanted to get some encouragement from other's recent experiences. Hopefully.

Hey Spiralli,
I've been going to Valdeh twice a year since my first post in this thread in September of '08. I've been very happy with my experiences with him. The first time I went, I had recently decided I wanted to try and grow to waist length. He was supportive, and encouraged me to grow out my layers since it was looking rather thin on the ends. I was at BSL with layers as short as APL.
What you might be interested to know is that he has recently begun to carry the Devacurl products in his salon, and he is working toward becoming a Deva-trained stylist. The last time I went to see him, around January, he did a Deva-style dry cut on my ends.
I'm posting three links: - one is my hair just before I went to see Valdeh for the first time - note that this is a standard layered cut that was done by another stylist.
- an intermediate shot from about 6 months ago that shows the layers I was growing out
- and a recent pic (from yesterday actually) that shows how my length has progressed - no more layers and at my goal length.
Go ahead and make that appointment - you won't be disappointed!

Wow, SpunGold, your hair is beautiful! Thank you for replying so quickly. I guess I will try to call tomorrow while I still have my nerve up, even though it will be Saturday and probably his busiest day. This is really a huge step for me, to make this call.

Styling Hutch
I've had amazing results w/ Kris at The Styling Hutch. She's so attentive and down to earth and is really getting to know my hair and she listens to my tips for styling my hair (although no one can style it better than me!)
I've never worn my hair down this much in my life! Yes the Ouidad cut is expensive at $105, but so far I've only needed one Ouidad cut and my next two visits were $55 in order to reshape the cut and trim the ends as my hair grows out from the last disaterous cut I got in Sherman (I know, but I moved here 4 yrs ago b/c my DH teaches at Austin College).
I've tried the Aveda salon in the West Village, as well as the Aveda salon in Denton, but after so many disappointing haircuts, I'm sticking to what works-and for me that's The Styling Hutch.
They also carry a lot of diff. products now (Ouidad, Mixed Chicks, Deva, Curlisto, Morrocan Oil, etc.). I'm sure you could even bring in your own products.
BTW, they also do a great job with coloring.

I have been getting my hair cut with Valdeh in Plano for almost a year. Very happy with what he has done for my hair. He listened to what my concerns were (thin, fine, want volume without losing length). I am wearing my hair down more this past year than I have total in the past 7-8 years that I was growing it out curly. He shows you how to style your hair, really taking time to explain each step. He is very patient, and is a nice guy too! I get compliments on my hair now and it looks so healthy because finally my cut really works with my hair's texture. I have layers and I hate when my ends start to tangle, so I go about every 8-10 weeks. My cut may be a bit on the expensive side, but I can use cheaper CG products now because my hair is cut better and falls into place better.
