Best way I have found is to do what cuban-curl-e says. put leave-in and gel in really wet hair and do your part, scrunch to develop your curls or whatever your gonna do with it, then don't touch it...

If you have time while it is drying gather the clump you want to form and put a clip in it to both encourage the clump and pull down and lengthen the coil. I just manually seperate after it dries.
