I just kind of 'round it up' for my curl type. Like I have 3B parts, but also 2C parts some days. But, overall, my hair mostly seems to be 3A. So I just call it 3A lol

I've only tried not using gel a couple of times (using a styling cream type thing instead) and my curls weren't as bouncy or, well, curly LOL. Plus there was a lot more frizz.
