How would you describe this hair type? Having trouble identifying

I'd say a lot of 2c with some 3a in there - mixed textures can be frustrating sometimes because they can behave really differently from day to day depending on humidity, products, how the hair is...

My skin is so dry I could scream

Skin does get drier with age for sure! In my case, my body is a lot drier than my face(although that's slowly drying out as well at age 68).

All the following statements refer to my body.:

Up...

Summer drugstore gel recommendation

LA Looks Sports Gel is popular here(it has level 10 hold which is their strongest). I've been using it for years myself and will never be without it!:)

Age spots

They're usually related to earlier unprotected sun exposure - a kindlier name for them is "sun spots". To me, the term "age spots" conjures up some depressingly spotted old lady who has tanned in...

Dry skin tips

For many years on my body, I either used extra-virgin coconut oil, or my own DIY shea butter-coconut oil body butter and that worked great(my husband still uses it), but in the last couple of years...

makeup mirror recs

I really appreciate people's suggestions, but I'm REALLY fussy about the mirror, and it has to be REALLY simple, as in, no bulky stand, and no lighting in it. It really has to fold flat, and yet has...

makeup mirror recs

I was wondering the same thing! And yes, it does have to be travel-size and fit in my medicine cabinet as I have no other place to put it where it would be handy, and yes, I do have to be able to pop...

Gel only styling works better? What is my porosity?

I'm a gel-only for styling too. I have 2c-3a color-treated(but NOT bleached)hair, very dense, fine to medium in texture. Too many products "cocktailed" just leave my hair a dull, limp mess IMO.

Need some deep conditioner recommendations

@HtBlack: that looks like quite the recipe - beyond what I can really get into as I don't have all that stuff on hand. My shea butter body butter has just 4 ingredients and that's enough for me to...

How long did it take to go all gray?

It really all depends! How long one's hair is, if one is trying to grow out previously-colored hair. But if you're talking about just letting the greys come with hair that's never been colored,...

How bad is dying your hair, for real!

Yes, there seems to be a lot of fear around dyeing hair, as in, one thinks the minute one does anything, one's hair will be ruined for life, ESPECIALLY for anyone with wavy or curly hair. Or they...

Are you embracing or running away from your gray hair?

"I'm growing my grey out but my hair was hennaed and it was very, very bright because I bleached it before doing the henna and used Bright Red from Henna Hut. So, I went to professional hair...

Ditch the gels

Not for me - they'll have to pry the LA Looks gel from my cold little hands, as well as the occasional use of Suave Captivating Curls Mousse with it. My hair, 2c-3a definitely benefits from styling...

Question about hair type 2c or 3a

Only a 2c from some of the other posters? I'd say mostly 3a with some 2c myself. On a GOOD day my hair could look like yours does now.:) Modified CG(co-wash with a sulfate-free shampoo from time to...

Looser curl/wave pattern help

I have the same deal - 2c/3a hair, with the loose 2c hair on canopy, with the beautiful curlier type underneath, with even a tiny tiny bit of 3b in a couple spots. As you can deduce, my hair is all...

gels/stylers for daily use

I've found with my hair that just spritzing with water, and scrunching, is sufficient to re-activate the gel that I put in my hair(on the days that I wash that is). Only very occasionally will I have...

Natural(but inexpensive) face creams?

I'm also in agreement with frckls about at one time trying to be "all natural" and not having it work. I did have to go back to some drugstore stuff, as it seems that I do best with that, and a...

Looking for a more moisturizing gel

No gel is truly moisturizing - one should look to one's conditioners for that, IMO. I'm fine myself with LALSG. I don't use leave-in conditioners - they just make my hair limp, even a tiny bit!

Has anyone tried Mane n' Tail conditioner?

I did, sometime back in the 90s. It was truly awful on my hair - it left it waxy, dull and coated. But your experience might be different, plus they might have changed the formula since nearly 20...

Can hair DNA change?

Hair "DNA" doesn't change - its texture does as one ages. Some notice their grey hairs are finer and thinner, others notice that they are more wiry/coarse, or with little kinks in them(that tend to...

Rant - about Sally Beauty

Hoping the GVP Conditioning Balm isn't being discontinued in the San Francisco Sally Beauty Supply stores! I'd better get on over there and get a couple of bottles if that's the case, to stock up a...

Natural(but inexpensive) face creams?

I'm with ldymmide with the assessment of those products posted by the original poster as being way too complicated. That's the trouble with many so-called natural items in the beauty world. However,...
