I would try a less harsh low-poo, possibly one without coco-betaine provided you're not using silicones. I haven't tried that many, but one that comes to mind is Shea Moisture.

I used Suave Naturals shampoo for my last sulfate wash -- I think it was less than $2. Another good option would be a V05 shampoo; I think those are under $1.

Personally, I probably wouldn't try the conditioner due to the amodimethicone. It's not really "bad" as far as silicones go, because it's less resistant to buildup, but it can't be cowashed out...
